Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Riesling "Grand Cru Brand" 2021 Maison Trimbach
Tasting
Colour
This white wine from France reveals a limpid and elegant colour, adorned with a delicate golden-yellow hue of pale to medium intensity.
Nose
Seductive and refined, the aromatic bouquet opens with vibrant notes of lime zest and kaffir lime. It then evolves towards aromas of well-ripened stone fruit, enhanced by a complex minerality reminiscent of gunflint and weathered granite.
Palate
Generous and remarkably fine, the palate offers a round, fleshy texture. The silky acidity is perfectly balanced by an intense minerality and a persistent salinity. A delicate tannic structure lends framework to the whole, leading to a long, aromatic finish.
Food and wine pairing
Highly versatile, this wine pairs beautifully with seafood, oysters, or raw fish preparations such as sushi. It also enhances creamy poultry dishes, traditional charcuterie, as well as lightly spiced Asian dishes or vegetarian dishes featuring goat cheese.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Riesling "Grand Cru Brand" 2021, it is recommended to serve it chilled, between 8 and 10°C, in a standard wine glass, with no need for decanting. Although already very approachable, this wine boasts remarkable aging potential and can continue to develop in the cellar until around 2055.
Other characteristics
This wine has an alcohol content of 13.5% along with a slight sweetness of 10 grams per litre of residual sugar, placing it at the boundary between dry and off-dry wines, while maintaining a masterful balance.
The pure, mineral expression of a great Alsatian terroir
The estate
Founded in 1626, Maison Trimbach is a true institution in Alsace. Based in Ribeauvillé, this historic estate oversees a 61-hectare vineyard. Renowned worldwide for its pure and balanced style, the estate has built its reputation on the excellence of its dry white wines. Today, the thirteenth generation is at the helm: Julien Trimbach oversees technical direction and winemaking, while Jean Trimbach, alongside Anne, Frédérique, and Pauline, manages commercial development. A family legacy carried on with rigour and passion.
The vineyard
Located on the steep slopes of Turckheim in Alsace, the Grand Cru Brand terroir benefits from a sun-drenched south to south-east exposure. The vines, averaging 45 years of age, thrive between 250 and 320 metres of altitude on shallow soils of two-mica granite. This granitic substrate, rich in clay within its fissures, forces the roots to draw their nutrients from deep below. The estate, certified organic, promotes biodiversity by incorporating trees, nesting boxes, and sheep for winter soil maintenance.
The vintage
The year 2021 was marked by warm, dry weather conditions. Sunny summer days were tempered by particularly cool nights, while August brought just the right amount of rainfall to ensure an optimal growing cycle and harmonious ripening of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
After careful sorting, the grapes are crushed and then gently pressed. The juice flows by gravity into the cellars for centrifugal settling. Each plot is vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. In keeping with the estate's philosophy, no malolactic fermentation takes place. The Riesling "Grand Cru Brand" 2021 then benefits from aging on fermentation lees for several weeks, followed by further aging on fine lees for several months. Tangential filtration is carried out before bottling in spring.
