Description
The complexity and aromatic richness of a red Hermitage wine
The estate
Established in Tain-L’Hermitage since 1808, Maison M. Chapoutier today ranks among the very greatest names in Rhône Valley wines.
Both winegrower and négociant, Michel Chapoutier has, vintage after vintage, led this family business to the very top. The wines of Maison Chapoutier are celebrated by the most discerning connoisseurs worldwide for their refinement and outstanding quality. A man of many talents, Michel Chapoutier holds the world record for 100/100 scores awarded by the American critic Robert Parker. His daughter Mathilde has now taken up the torch of this iconic house, overseeing more than 350 hectares of vineyards across the most prestigious appellations of the northern and southern Rhône Valley.
The vineyard
Monier de la Sizeranne 2014 is an Hermitage wine made from a blend of different vineyard plots, laid out from west to east: “les Bessards”, with its granite soil; “le Méal”, with its ancient alluvial terraces of varying limestone content, rich in gravel and rounded pebbles; and “les Greffieux”, with its soil of silt and rounded pebbles.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes, 100% destemmed, are vinified in concrete vats at temperatures regulated between 30 and 33°C. Punching down takes place once or twice a day. The wine is aged for 18 months, 85% in oak barrels and 15% in concrete vats, to preserve its minerality and freshness.
