Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Domaine Combe Pilate "Chasselas" 2022 by M. Chapoutier
The estate
Founded in 1808 under the name Maison Calvet et Compagnie in Tain-l'Hermitage, M. Chapoutier became a family estate in 1897 with the partnership of Marius Chapoutier and Rodolphe Delépine. Established in the Rhône Valley, the House is now led by Michel Chapoutier, joined by his daughter Mathilde since 2017. A pioneer of biodynamics since the 1980s and the first wine House to adopt braille labeling in 1996, it stands out for its innovative approach to the Rhône terroir and its international influence.
The vineyard
Domaine Combe Pilate "Chasselas" 2022 comes from the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, a prime area for white grape varieties in the northern Rhône Valley. The vines thrive on a terroir of clay, silicified pebbles, scree and calcareous loess.
Vinification and aging
Hand-harvested grapes. After a light settling, the whole grapes are pressed. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks and foudres, followed by 1 to 10 months of aging on fine lees.
