Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Volnay 1er Cru "Chanlin" Famille Gagey 2022
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals an intense ruby red colour.
Nose
Highly complex, the aromatic bouquet opens with red fruit aromas such as strawberry, raspberry and cherry. It is then enriched with delicate floral touches reminiscent of peony and violet, perfectly underlined by a subtle oakiness with hints of vanilla and sweet spices.
Palate
The attack is delicate and gives way to an elegant, refined palate, supported by fine, silky tannins. The finish, of great length, lingers on savoury notes of spices and candied fruits.
Food and wine pairings
This great red wine pairs beautifully with white meats or fine poultry, such as guinea fowl with mushrooms or roast chicken with herbs. It will also enhance small feathered game, a forest mushroom risotto or soft cheeses such as a mature brie.
Serving and cellaring
This Volnay 1er Cru "Chanlin" Famille Gagey 2022 can be enjoyed now to appreciate its fruity brilliance, or cellared for around a decade.
The refined expression of a great Volnay terroir by Louis Jadot
The estate
Founded in 1859 in Beaune, Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. At the helm of a vast vineyard, the estate stands out for its ability to combine an international scope with a deeply respectful approach to terroirs. Today led by Thomas Seiter, who succeeded the Gagey family in operational management, the house perpetuates a classic and authentic style. Committed to a sustainable viticulture approach, it strives to reveal the uniqueness of each Burgundian climat through consistently reliable cuvées.
The vineyard
The "Chanlin" climat is a prestigious premier cru located at the southern edge of the Volnay appellation, bordering Meursault. The vines flourish on hillsides benefiting from a fine east and south-east facing exposure. The terroir consists of clay-limestone soils rich in small stones, offering excellent natural drainage. This subtle geological balance allows the grape variety to draw out its full complexity, giving rise to wines of great elegance.
The vintage
In Burgundy, 2022 stands out as a particularly high-quality vintage. The growing cycle benefited from very favourable weather conditions, marked by strong summer heat. This favourable weather allowed the berries to reach optimal maturity, resulting in a generous harvest of great quality.
Vinification and ageing
Carefully crafted, this Volnay 1er Cru "Chanlin" Famille Gagey 2022 comes from hand-harvested grapes, allowing rigorous berry sorting. In the vat room, maceration and fermentation are carried out in a traditional manner to preserve the delicacy of the fruit. The wine then benefits from meticulous ageing in oak barrels from the Cadus cooperage, over a period of 12 to 18 months. The use of new wood remains moderate so as not to mask the identity of the terroir.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir (100%).
