Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Poissenot" 2024 Louis Jadot

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a magnificent red hue.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with beautiful floral delicacy accompanied by red and black fruits such as cherry and blackberry. Subtle mineral and marine touches then blend with notes of orange peel and marjoram.

Palate
Medium-bodied, the palate stands out for its mineral structure and lively acidity. It offers vibrant red fruit flavours, evolving mid-palate towards aromas of truffle and stony earth, before concluding on a harmonious, perfectly balanced finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with rich poultry such as duck or goose, as well as feathered game. It also enhances roasted or braised beef, grilled pork, or spiced dishes such as tagine or couscous. As for cheese, a ripe Époisses makes an ideal choice.

Service and Storage

This Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Poissenot" 2024 reveals excellent ageing potential and can be enjoyed until around 2039.

The Mineral Elegance of a Great Burgundy Wine by Louis Jadot

The Estate

Officially founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Maison Louis Jadot is a true institution in Burgundy. With a vineyard covering around 528 acres, much of it classified as Premier and Grand Cru, the estate combines the expertise of both winegrower and négociant. Now led by Thomas Seiter, who succeeded Pierre-Henry Gagey, the house stands out for its deep environmental commitment, favouring sustainable practices and minimal-intervention winemaking to express the purest authenticity of its terroirs.

The Vineyard

The Poissenot climat is a rare and prestigious terroir located at the top of the northern slope of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, at an altitude of between 320 and 340 metres. Facing south-east, the vines thrive on very thin soils where the limestone bedrock emerges at the surface. This distinctive geology, rich in marine fossils, forces the root system to draw deeply on its resources, giving the wine a unique mineral identity. The vineyard is cultivated according to environmentally responsible principles, without any synthetic products.

The Vintage

The 2024 vintage in Burgundy experienced a climatic cycle quite different from the previous year. The harvest and the various stages leading up to bottling continue until spring 2026.

Winemaking and Aging

The winery's philosophy is based on minimal intervention, allowing the terroir to express itself fully. For this Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Poissenot" 2024, fermentation takes place naturally through the action of indigenous yeasts. Ageing is carried out with very moderate use of new oak barrels, a tailored approach decided according to the characteristics of the vintage. The wine undergoes neither fining nor filtration, in order to preserve all of its aromatic delicacy.
