Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of Corton Grèves Grand Cru Domaine Louis Jadot 2024
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a deep ruby red colour with crimson highlights, evolving into subtle magenta shades at the rim of the glass.
Nose
The nose reveals intense aromas of black fruits such as blueberry and blackberry, underlined by mineral hints of flint and herbaceous notes. Over time, the bouquet grows more complex, unveiling nuances of leather, mushroom, raw cocoa and warm spices.
Palate
On the palate, this wine shows a firm structure and beautiful density. The tannins are silky and flavourful, perfectly balanced by harmonious acidity and a velvety texture. The finish is long and persistent, hinting at delicate floral and spicy notes.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs ideally with full-flavoured meats such as beef or game (wild boar, venison), particularly when served with wine or mushroom sauces. It also matches beautifully with truffle-based dishes, braised poultry such as coq au vin, as well as aged cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine between 14 and 16°C, taking care to decant it 30 to 60 minutes before serving while young. This Corton Grèves Grand Cru Dom. Louis Jadot 2024 requires a few years of patience in the cellar and will continue to evolve at its best until at least 2054.
The power and refinement of a wine from the Corton Grand Cru appellation
The estate
Founded in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, the Louis Jadot House is a historic and iconic figure of Burgundy, in France. Acquired in 1985 by the Kopf family, who still owns it today, the estate spans approximately 270 hectares of vineyards across the region. Currently led by Thomas Seiter as President and Thibault Gagey as Managing Director, the House stands out for its deep commitment to sustainable viticulture and the authentic expression of its terroirs.
The vineyard
This wine comes from a unique 0.55-hectare parcel located at the heart of the Corton Grand Cru appellation, on the Grèves Climat. Facing south-east, the vines were planted in 1960 and benefit from ideal morning sunshine. The terroir consists of brown clay soils rich in iron and scattered with flint, resting on a Jurassic limestone bedrock. The vineyard has been managed according to organic farming principles since 2008.
The vintage
The year 2024 began with a particularly warm and dry winter and early spring. Beneficial rainfall in March enabled a homogeneous flowering in May. Despite a stormy June, the end of summer proved mild, followed by a September heatwave that promoted the final ripening of the berries before an early harvest in mid-September.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand. The vinification of the Corton Grèves Grand Cru Dom. Louis Jadot 2024 incorporates 25 to 30% whole clusters. Fermentation takes place in small open vats with indigenous yeasts, accompanied by regular punch-downs and pump-overs for two to three weeks. The wine is then aged for 18 months in oak barrels (of which around 30% are new), before completing its maturation in stainless steel tanks or neutral barrels.
