Vinum

Marked by barrel aging, with notes of mocha, dark fruit, caramel and herbs; the palate is fleshy and round, with sweet fruit, fine tannins and good density, carried by refreshing acidity; a long, red-fruited finish. A wine of restrained energy.

Lovely fragrance, raspberry flowers. Creamy, aromatic, expressive. Supple and fleshy at first, the tannins gripping and present in the mouth but the acidity takes over giving this tension and direction. Quite a linear Petit, a more serious and defined one with a wet stone salinity on the fish alongside liquorice and tobacco. Quiet. Has amplitude and breadth at the beginning, really a nice texture to begin with although I think ageing will really help this soften and become more charming. Nice potential. 3% of Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend.

There is quite a bit of spice in the nose before delving into the black and red fruits, cocoa, and flowers. Supple, round, polished, and fresh, there is depth of flavor, richness, and most importantly, vibrance to the layers of fruit, with their toppings of chocolate, and spice. There is a showy character with the 2025 vintage that makes this a superb, mini Mouton. The wine blends 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot.13% ABV. 3.72 pH. Drink from 2029-2048. 92-94 Pts

If there’s one message Petit Mouton makes clear from the outset, it’s the bouquet’s tribute to Cabernet Sauvignon! No, it’s not the oak that leads the dance, but the fruit. The tone is set right away. Notes of graphite and toast are also present; they simply take their place and play their part, while blackcurrant and eucalyptus bring the spotlight back to the king Cabernet! Aromatically, it’s very well supported, and that same logic is perfectly reflected on the palate. The wine is elegant, silky, powerful and subtly suave, guided by poised tannins that tie into the wine’s acidic structure. A precise, relevant, coherent Petit Mouton, intent on shining for what it is—not for what is expected of it. It may be the “little” one, but it has everything of a great wine!

Deep, intense dark red color with black highlights. An intense, refined nose (a first) with ripe fruit aromas. A fresh touch of red fruits, slightly mentholated when the glass is swirled. Full on the attack, with a hint of Saint-Estèphe in its evolution; combining both fresh fruit and dark fruit on the palate, the wine develops into a juicy, powerful expression. The finish is long, with a positively austere touch, as the flavor is clearly present. Blend: 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot. Alcohol: 13% - pH: 3.72. Yield: 28.5 hl/ha. Ageing: 50% in new barrels for 18 months. Harvest from September 5 to 20.

Characteristics and tasting tips for Le Petit Mouton 2025 from Château Mouton Rothschild

Tasting

Appearance
This wine displays a deep ruby red color, enhanced by elegant violet reflections that attest to its youth and fine maturity.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex and layered. It opens with aromas of small black berries, raspberry and wild strawberry, highlighted by notes of menthol and graphite.

Palate
The attack is juicy and lively. The tannic structure is both fine, precise and powerful, offering an athletic texture on the mid-palate. The whole is rich, taut and ample, extending into a long finish marked by beautiful minerality.

Food and wine pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with richly flavored meats such as game or venison. It also complements perfectly grilled or roasted red meats without overly heavy sauces, as well as herb-roasted poultry. To finish the meal, aged hard cheeses make an ideal choice.

Serving and cellaring
Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2025 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 17 and 18°C. Decanting beforehand is recommended to allow it to breathe. With great aging potential, it can be enjoyed now but will reach its peak and can be enjoyed through around 2033.

The elegance and power of a Second Wine from Pauillac by Château Mouton Rothschild

The estate
The modern history of Château Mouton Rothschild began with its creation under its current name in 1853, when Baron Nathaniel de Rothschild acquired Château Brane-Mouton. Located in the Bordeaux region, this illustrious estate has established itself as a world-renowned property, famous for its labels illustrated by great artists and its spirit of innovation. Today, the children of Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Camille Sereys de Rothschild, Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, manage this prestigious estate, perpetuating the excellence of this mythical cru.

The vineyard
Located in the prestigious Pauillac appellation, the terroir dedicated to this cuvée covers 82 hectares under production. The vines, with an average age of 44 years, thrive on soils composed of deep gravel resting on a clay-limestone base. This poor, well-draining terroir forces the vine to draw its resources from deep underground, thereby promoting optimal grape concentration.

The vintage
The year 2025 began with a mild and slightly dry winter, encouraging early budbreak on March 31. April was particularly rainy before giving way, from May onward, to summer-like conditions that lasted until the end of August. Flowering occurred quickly and evenly between May 22 and 27, followed by veraison from July 27 to 31. Marked water stress resulted in small, highly concentrated berries, while maintaining excellent sanitary conditions. The return of cooler temperatures and some rainfall at the end of August completed ripening. The early harvest took place from September 5 to 20, yielding healthy, rich grapes, although yields were affected by low rainfall.

Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting in small crates, the berries are carefully sorted on vibrating tables before being transferred by gravity into oak vats. Aging then takes place over a period of 18 months, with 50% new barrels. Alcohol: 13% vol.

Grape varieties
Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2025 is a blend of 58% cabernet sauvignon, 36% merlot, 3% cabernet franc and 3% petit verdot.
