Description
Characteristics and tasting tips for the Côtes du Rhône "La Réserve" Blanc 2025 from Clos du Caillou
Tasting
Appearance
Clear and particularly brilliant, this cuvée shows a beautiful golden hue.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is beautifully complex, combining notes of ripe white- and yellow-fleshed fruit, candied citrus and delicate floral touches. Spicy nuances and soft hints of brioche often add further richness.
Palate
Broad and full-bodied, this wine offers a generous texture perfectly balanced by refreshing minerality. The long finish stands out for its fine, mouthwatering bitter notes, which underline its elegance.
Food and wine pairings
This gastronomic white wine pairs wonderfully with Mediterranean seafood dishes, such as fine shellfish or fish in sauce. It also makes a superb match for white meats in cream sauce, dishes combining vegetables with full-flavoured cheeses, and refined desserts featuring citrus or yellow fruit.
Serving and cellaring
Crafted to develop gracefully over time, this 2025 vintage is a wine built for ageing, with a structure that will carry it through the years with great elegance.
The finesse and richness of a great white wine from the Rhône Valley
The estate
Founded in 1895 as a walled hunting reserve, Le Clos du Caillou is today an essential reference in the Rhône Valley. Located in Courthézon, this singular estate cherishes its status as an enclave at the heart of prestigious terroirs. Run by Sylvie Vacheron, together with her children Marilou and Axel, the estate stands out for its deep commitment to organic and biodynamic farming. It crafts wines renowned for their great elegance, expressing the nuances of their exceptional terroirs with remarkable precision.
The vineyard
The estate covers just over fifty hectares, most of which is classified under the Côtes du Rhône appellation. The vines enjoy a hot, dry Mediterranean climate and are swept by the Mistral wind, which ensures optimal vine health. The terroirs, of remarkable geological quality, consist of ancient sands known as safres lying over marl, as well as rounded pebbles. These soils give the grapes great finesse. The vineyard is managed to demanding environmental standards, with no herbicides whatsoever, regular soil cultivation and exclusively hand harvesting.
Winemaking and ageing
This wine is crafted to preserve the purity of the fruit while adding complexity. Ageing, of carefully measured duration, takes place partly in stainless steel tanks to retain aromatic freshness. The rest of the wine is aged in wood, in demi-muids and barrels, which gives the wine structure and subtle toasty notes without ever masking the character of the fruit.
Grape varieties
This cuvée showcases Clairette (pink and/or white), which makes up the vast majority of the blend. Depending on the vintage, a proportion of Grenache Blanc complements this main variety to fine-tune the aromatic balance and structure.
