Decanter

Raspberry and cool blue fruit presage a mini version of the Grand Vin, so more of those powerful tannins with some high–toned redberry fruit, and pleasing mid palate juiciness. The wine has a savoury aspect with notes of damp soil after rainfall. Medium finish.

Black currants, tobacco, red fruits and smoke hit the spot in the aromatics. Medium-bodied, fresh, and refined, there is a nice vibrancy, coupled with a light touch of chalk in the finish that really works well here. You can enjoy this with pleasure on release while waiting for the Grand Vin to develop. The blend is 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2028-2040. 92-94 Pts

Sweet cassis and bilberry, attractive texture, juice and depth, touch of dilution through the mid palate but there is balance here, and it is charming.

An aromatic and silky red Second Wine from Pessac-Léognan

The estate

Owned by the Bernard family since 1983, the magnificent Domaine de Chevalier ranks among the finest Classified Growths of Bordeaux. The estate lies at the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, nestled in a verdant setting south of Bordeaux. L'Esprit de Chevalier is the estate's second wine.

The vineyard

Domaine de Chevalier is a Pessac-Léognan wine produced from a rare 67-hectare vineyard, resting on a gravelly terroir with clay-gravel subsoils, 60 hectares of which are dedicated to red wine. Since 1986, the young vines have been devoted to ripening the berries that go into the blend of the estate's second wine, L'Esprit de Chevalier.

The vintage

The 2025 vintage enjoyed exceptional climatic conditions: a rainy winter ensuring ample water reserves, a mild spring favouring an early and even flowering, followed by a hot, dry summer allowing optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvest, spread out from late August to 26 September, was carried out in excellent conditions, with satisfying yields. The result is wines of great aromatic richness, combining freshness, complexity and elegance, in both white and red.

Winemaking and aging

After manual harvesting into small crates, during which meticulous sorting is carried out in the vineyard, the berries are sorted once again at the cellar before and after destemming. The grapes are vinified in stainless steel, concrete and wooden vats before being aged in barrels for 14 months. Alcohol content: 12.5% vol.
