A Sancerre Blanc Combining Minerality and Elegance
The Estate
Rooted in history since 1513 with Pierre-Étienne Mellot in Sancerre, the House of Joseph Mellot now cultivates 100 hectares of vineyards in the Centre-Loire. Led since 2005 by Catherine Corbeau-Mellot alongside her sons Armand and Adrien, this family-run House carries on expertise passed down for more than five centuries. The only owner-producer present across all eight Centre-Loire AOCs, Joseph Mellot primarily grows sauvignon blanc and pinot noir.
The Vineyard
The La Chatellenie cuvée comes from an 18-hectare vineyard planted on the flinty clay soils characteristic of Sancerre. The vines, averaging 25 years of age, are farmed sustainably, with environmentally respectful mechanical soil cultivation.
The Vintage
The year 2024 begins with a very mild winter, leading to very early budbreak. Spring is mild but particularly rainy, creating strong downy mildew pressure. Summer remains mild and rather humid. Harvest takes place in early October in very cool, relatively rainy conditions.
Winemaking and Aging
La Chatellenie 2024 is machine-harvested in early October. The grapes undergo direct pressing in a pneumatic press with juice selection, followed by cold settling. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Aging is carried out on fine lees in stainless-steel tanks, preserving the wine’s freshness and minerality.
Grape Variety
This white wine from Loire is 100% sauvignon blanc.
