Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Condrieu "Les Eguets" 2024 by Jean-Michel Gérin

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful pale straw-yellow hue enhanced by silvery highlights.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with floral notes of rose, acacia and white flowers, intertwined with fruity aromas of apricot, lychee and mango, all enhanced by a delicate buttery touch.

Palate
Boasting a majestic volume and a silky texture, this wine reveals flavours of ripe yellow fruit and subtle brioche notes. A lovely tension and a finely chiselled freshness energise the palate, extending into a long finish marked by granitic minerality and noble bitterness.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine from France pairs wonderfully with freshwater fish such as pike quenelles, seafood, or delicate white meats. The estate also suggests pairing it with mandarin-glazed scallops, served with citrus butter and crisp asparagus.

Service and storage

For optimal tasting, the Condrieu Les Eguets 2024 should be served at a temperature between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. This wine can already be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably, drinking well until around 2033.

Other characteristics

This wine stands out for its dry white wine profile, combining aromatic generosity with refreshing minerality.

Excellence in the Rhône Valley: Domaine Jean-Michel Gérin

The estate

Officially founded in 1983 by Jean-Michel Gérin, this family-run estate is located in Ampuis, at the heart of the Rhône Valley. Although the family has been growing vines for six generations, it was under his leadership that the estate established itself as a key reference. Today, his sons, Michaël and Alexis Gérin, run the roughly twenty-hectare property. Committed to heroic viticulture on steep slopes, the estate stands out for its rigorous plot-by-plot approach and its organic certification obtained in 2023.

The vineyard

The cuvée comes from a half-hectare plot located in the commune of Chavanay, in the southern part of the Condrieu appellation. The vines, over 25 years old, thrive on steep slopes with gradients of up to 60%. This terroir rests on decomposed granite soils, giving the grapes optimal concentration. Vine work and harvesting are carried out exclusively by hand.

Winemaking and aging

After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes undergo gentle pneumatic pressing. The winemaking and aging of Les Eguets 2024 take place half in stainless steel tanks and half in oak barrels. This process, lasting around twelve months, helps preserve the purity of the fruit while adding lovely complexity, resulting in a modern, well-balanced style.

Grape variety

100% Viognier.
