Description
A Cornas red wine, harmoniously combining aromatic richness and refinement
The producer
Epicurean oenologists, Jean-Luc Colombo and his wife founded the eponymous estate in 1987, with the ambition of making fine Cornas wines that highlight the potential of this Rhone Valley terroir. Passionate, Jean-Luc Colombo favours plot by plot vinification in order to bring out the pure and authentic expression of the old vines that make up his vineyard.
The wine
This Cornas wine "Les Ruchets" by Jean-Luc Colombo is made from very old vines, reaching up to 90 years of age.
With a south-east exposure, this terroir is located on steep slopes with granitic soil covered with ramial chipped wood which limits erosion and enables the vines grow in a natural manner.
The vinification and ageing
Hand-picked in small crates in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit, the grapes are destemmed and then vinified in temperature-controlled tanks for one month. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 20 to 24 months, depending on the vintage. One third of the barrels are new and two thirds are first to third fill barrels.
The blend
Jean-Luc Colombo's Les Ruchets 2010 is a 100% Syrah.
The tasting
Colour
Intense, this wine is a deep black colour.
Nose
Combining complexity and finesse, the nose exudes floral (violet), fruity (black fruits) and spicy fragrances with tasty vanilla notes.
Palate
The mouth seduces due to its power, its structure, its refined and smooth tannins.
Service
For an optimal tasting experience, decant the wine and serve at 18°C.
Storage
This Cornas wine can be kept in the cellar until around 2030, enabling it to reveal its full range of aromas.
Food and wine pairing
Jean-Luc Colombo's Cuvée Les Ruchets 2010 will enhance bone marrow prime rib or game such as wild duck rubbed with crushed spices.
