The elegance and complexity of a white wine from the Rhône Valley
The estate
The history of the Chave family in the Rhône Valley begins in 1481. After centuries of acquiring expertise, the estate settled on the legendary hill of the appellation in 1865. Today, Jean-Louis Chave represents the sixteenth generation at the helm of the estate, which spans approximately 35 hectares. A fervent advocate of sustainable viticulture, he carries on the family legacy with passion. The estate is world-renowned for its art of blending, crafting cuvées that faithfully express the very essence of their terroir.
The vineyard
The vineyard extends over the eastern part of the famous hill of the Hermitage appellation. The vines, some of which are approaching a century old, thrive on terroirs composed of clay and limestone. These soils, worked by hand or with horses to preserve their vitality, offer ideal conditions for grape development, giving them a unique depth.
The vintage
The year 2020 stood out for its extreme heat and marked drought throughout the growing season. However, water reserves accumulated from earlier rains allowed the vines to withstand these conditions. Cool summer nights played a crucial role in preserving the berries' acidity. The harvest, particularly early, was completed in late September under favourable weather conditions.
Winemaking and aging
The estate's philosophy favours minimal intervention in the cellar. The fermentations of the Hermitage "Domaine" 2020 are carried out using indigenous yeasts. Each parcel is vinified separately to respect its own identity before the crucial blending stage. Finally, the wine is bottled without filtration to preserve its full authenticity.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne.
