Decanter

A definite step up in concentration, density and length, the Murgers des Dents de Chien offers aromas of Mirabelle and nectarine fruit, with floral notes and a bit of spice. The texture is creamy and rich, yet it remains in balance without heaviness. The grapes are from the domaine-owned parcel of just over a half-hectare; they are gently pressed and fermented in barrel, 25% new. This should be accessible soon after release, but it definitely has potential to improve over the next decade at a minimum.

Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Saint-Aubin 1er Cru "Murgers des Dents de Chien" 2024 by Jean Chartron

Tasting

Appearance
Revealing a pale gold hue, this wine is enhanced by delicate green reflections typical of its youthful character.

Nose
The bouquet opens with beautiful freshness, blending aromas of white flowers and citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit. Subtle notes of green almond and orange blossom intertwine with a mineral backbone and light spicy, toasted touches drawn from the ageing process.

Palate
This white wine stands out for its remarkable mineral tension and beautiful intensity. The structure, carried by a refreshing acidity, unfolds at length to deliver a persistent finish of great precision.

Food pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with seafood such as oysters or scallops. It also brilliantly accompanies white fish served with a lemon sauce, matured cheeses like Comté, as well as dishes based on asparagus and mushrooms.

Serving and cellaring

For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this wine at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Accessible in its youth, it has a fine ageing potential and can be cellared until at least 2030.

The mineral purity and elegance of a Saint-Aubin Premier Cru

The estate

Founded in 1859 by Jean-Édouard Dupard in Puligny-Montrachet, Domaine Jean Chartron is a historic figure of Burgundy. Today, the fifth generation, embodied by Jean-Michel and Anne-Laure Chartron, is at the helm of the estate. Overseeing a vineyard of around 14.5 hectares, the duo carries on the family's expertise with an environmentally respectful approach. Renowned for its mastery of the Côte de Beaune terroirs, the estate produces authentic wines that accurately express all the complexity of their origins.

The vineyard

The vineyard from which this Saint-Aubin is produced reaches the highest point of the appellation, between 300 and 350 metres in altitude. With a south to south-east exposure, the vines thrive on a plateau of clay-limestone soils. This privileged geographical setting encourages slow ripening of the berries while preserving great freshness. The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage is characterised by conditions that favoured beautiful tension and great freshness. The growing cycle allowed the berries to develop a light, fruity profile, particularly highlighting the aromatic brightness and mineral definition typical of this year.

Vinification and ageing

Vinification begins with fermentation in oak barrels, 25% of which are new. The wine then benefits from ageing on fine lees in barrels for 12 months. Finally, it is refined for a further four months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

Grape variety

Chardonnay (100%).
