Jean Chartron : Bâtard-Montrachet Grand cru 2019

The 2019 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru is a little muffled on the nose, showing wild honey, peach skin and lime cordial intermixed with butterscotch aromas. It needs more tension and minerality. The palate is viscous on the entry, concentrated and deep, yet missing the requisite tension. It shows some heat toward the finish. The jury is out on this one, and it deteriorates in the glass. It shows the enveloping density of Chardonnay planted in this terroir, developing notes of ginger and candied lemon. This is a white that needs time to assert its legendary power. If you're in a hurry, at least give it a decant before serving.
