Description
A complex and elegant red wine from the Languedoc
The estate
Nestled in the heart of the Languedoc, Domaine Gérard Bertrand reflects its founder's commitment to showcasing the riches of the terroir of the South of France. With a history stretching back several decades, the estate is renowned for its expertise in crafting wines that express the nuances of the Languedoc's great vineyards with power and elegance.
The vineyard
Made rare by its low yields, Gérard Bertrand's Château La Sauvageonne "Grand Vin" is a Terrasses du Larzac wine produced from vineyards between 150 and 350 metres above sea level, on volcanic soils of sandstone and schist.
Winemaking and ageing
The grapes are hand-harvested, sorted and destemmed, then vinified by variety in temperature-controlled vats. Maceration lasts 20 to 25 days. At the end of winter, the wine goes into new 225-litre barrels, where it is aged for 12 to 16 months.
