Description

The finesse and mineral expression of a great Rhône Valley wine

The estate

Rooted in Ampuis in the Rhône Valley, this family estate is the product of seven generations of winegrowers. Although its history stretches back many years, the true founding of the modern Domaine Stéphane Ogier dates back to 1983, when Michel Ogier decided to bottle his own wines. Today, his son Stéphane Ogier runs the estate. Drawing on an approach inspired by Burgundy, he vinifies his terroirs plot by plot to bring out finesse. The estate now spans several dozen hectares and has featured state-of-the-art facilities since 2015.

The vineyard

Classified as IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, the Seyssuel terroir lies on the left bank of the river. The vines are planted by hand on slopes made up of metamorphic rock, specifically chlorite-schist and augen gneiss. These dense, shallow soils force deep rooting and give the grapes a distinctive mineral signature.

Winemaking and aging

The making of the "L'Ame Soeur" 2022 begins with a cold maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is then triggered by indigenous yeasts, incorporating a proportion of 20% whole-cluster grapes. The wine then undergoes an extended aging period of twenty months in barrels, with a very moderate use of new oak amounting to just 10%, in order to preserve the vibrancy of the fruit.

Grape variety

Syrah (100%).
