Description
The elegance and mineral freshness of a great white Rully wine
The estate
Located in Burgundy, Domaine Saint-Jacques was founded in 1955 by Christophe-Amédée Grandmougin. This former stopover residence on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela houses superb thirteenth-century Romanesque cellars. Today, the estate spans nearly ten hectares of vineyards, primarily dedicated to producing white wines. Since May 2022, Christophe-Andrea has represented the third generation at the helm of the family domain. Committed to an environmentally respectful approach, the estate cultivates its vines according to the principles of organic farming, producing cuvées that reflect the full authenticity of their terroir.
The vineyard
The "Marissou" climat is one of the prestigious Premiers Crus of the Rully appellation, located to the north of the Côte Chalonnaise. This plot of just over seven hectares benefits from an ideal south-east exposure and an altitude ranging between 230 and 300 metres. The vines, averaging around forty years of age, are planted at a high density of ten thousand vines per hectare on marl-limestone soils. The estate practices sustainable viticulture, currently undergoing organic conversion, with entirely manual harvesting to preserve the integrity of the berries.
The vintage
2023 proved to be a particularly high-quality year in the region. Highly favourable weather conditions allowed for naturally superior phenological ripeness, resulting in exceptionally high-quality grapes and a harmonious balance.
Winemaking and aging
After manual harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are carefully transported in small crates. The Rully 1er cru "Marissou" 2023 is first aged in 228-litre oak barrels, 30% of which are new, for approximately ten months. The wine is then refined in stainless steel tanks for a further five months, a mixed method that combines the mineral purity of the terroir with a beautiful structure.

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Rully 1er cru "Marissou" 2023 from Domaine Saint-Jacques
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful golden hue, enhanced by delicate green tints that reflect a harvest picked at perfect ripeness.
Nose
The bouquet expresses great richness. It reveals aromas of yellow fruits such as apricot and quince, enhanced by subtle notes of aniseed, honey and spices. With aeration, nuances of vanilla and toasted bread emerge, supported by a mineral backbone characteristic of its terroir.
Palate
The attack is lively and taut, giving way to a silky, round and generous texture. The balance is perfect between refreshing acidity and buttery, vanilla and hazelnut notes. The finish stands out for its beautiful length, marked by an elegant salinity and soft, creamy touches.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with grilled fish, seafood or shellfish. It also ideally accompanies white meats in sauce, such as poultry with cream and mushrooms, as well as soft or goat's cheeses.
Service and storage
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the Rully 1er cru "Marissou" 2023 at a temperature between 10 and 12°C. This age-worthy wine can be enjoyed from 2026 and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2033.
