Serving and cellaring

The estate
Located in the heart of Burgundy in France, Domaine Lorenzon has established itself as a benchmark of the Côte Chalonnaise. While the family's winemaking heritage dates back more than a century, the estate in its current form was created in 1997, when Bruno Lorenzon took over its direction. Now at the helm of a vineyard of around ten hectares, the current owner, supported by his sister Carline, stands out for his highly demanding agronomic approach. The rejection of herbicides for over thirty years and meticulous soil care have shaped the identity of this estate.
The vineyard
The vines dedicated to this cuvée flourish on the slopes of Mercurey, within a natural amphitheater offering varied exposures. The terroir consists of clay-limestone and stony soils, farmed organically. The uniqueness of this vineyard lies in its very high planting density, exceeding 10,000 vines per hectare, with vines trained up to 1.70 meters in height. This cuvée is the result of a meticulous blend of fifteen micro-parcels of old vines spread across three iconic premier crus: Les Champs Martin, Les Croichots and Clos des Barraults.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Mercurey 1er Cru "Pièce 15" 2024 are harvested by hand in small crates to preserve the integrity of the berries, which are then transported to the winery by refrigerated truck. The estate's philosophy excludes any chaptalization or acidification. After whole-cluster pressing, the juices are vinified with minimal intervention. Aging takes place in barrels designed and crafted by the winemaker himself from local wood, with no use of new oak. The wine then undergoes refinement in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
