Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Crozes-Hermitage 2023 from Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals an intense ruby colour, enhanced by bright violet reflections.
Nose
Particularly expressive, the nose unveils a complex bouquet blending aromas of black fruits, such as blackcurrant and cherry, with delicate floral notes of violet and peony. The whole is enhanced by hints of black pepper, olive and a subtle woody, smoky touch.
Palate
The attack is crisp and vibrant, offering a juicy palate full of energy. Carried by a beautiful tension and fine, silky tannins, this red wine seduces with its freshness. The long, spicy finish stands out with a delicate saline touch.
Food and wine pairings
This Syrah pairs wonderfully with flavourful meats such as a grilled rib of beef, roast duck or a lamb tagine. It will also beautifully complement firm-fleshed fish, such as a swordfish steak or sesame-crusted red tuna.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this 2023 vintage slightly chilled, at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. Approachable in its youth, this wine can also be cellared and enjoyed until around 2028.
The energy and precision of a Syrah from the Rhône Valley
The estate
Founded by enthusiasts who started from scratch, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott is an essential estate of the Rhône Valley in France. The adventure began with the purchase of a first fallow plot in 2015. Based in Ampuis, Graeme and Julie Bott, the current owners, initially vinified in a small garage before expanding. Now at the helm of a 12-hectare vineyard, the winegrowing couple stands out for their entirely manual work and a rigorous plot-by-plot approach, giving rise to wines renowned for their elegance, freshness and remarkable precision.
The vineyard
The grapes used for this Crozes-Hermitage come from specific terroirs, carefully selected by the estate. The vines thrive on soils composed of alluvium and rolled pebbles. These geological features provide excellent drainage and radiate warmth, thus promoting optimal ripening of the berries while preserving their freshness.
Winemaking and aging
True to the estate's philosophy, the winemaking favours finesse and fruit expression thanks to gentle extractions. After vinification, the wine benefits from meticulous aging over ten months in French oak barrels, allowing the tannins to be polished without masking the brilliance of the grape variety.
