Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a dark, deep hue of almost opaque ruby red.
Nose
The nose reveals a complex bouquet dominated by aromas of black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant. It then opens onto characteristic notes of liquorice, delicate spices and subtle touches of undergrowth and chocolate.
Palate
On the palate, this wine stands out for its crisp freshness and spicy structure. Full-bodied and harmonious, it offers a lovely roundness that extends into a persistent and perfectly balanced finish.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with local lamb, grilled red meats or game dishes in sauce. It will also pair very well with aged hard cheeses such as Comté or blue-veined cheeses.
Service and storage
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to open the bottle an hour before serving and to serve this Terres d'Encre 2024 at a temperature between 15 and 18°C. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2032.
Other characteristics

The elegance and mineral precision of a Saint-Joseph wine
The estate
Founded in 1936 by Francis Vernay, Domaine Georges Vernay is a true institution of the Rhône Valley, in France. Now spanning 24 hectares, this vineyard is renowned for its steep terraced terroirs. After the visionary work of Georges Vernay, the estate is now run by Christine Vernay, together with her daughter Emma Amsellem. Committed to a strong environmental approach, the estate is certified organic and produces wines recognised for their excellence and authentic expression.
The vineyard
This cuvée comes from a 1.5-hectare plot located in Chavanay, in the northern part of the Saint-Joseph appellation. The vines, grown organically, thrive on steep slopes arranged in terraces. The terroir, composed of granite soils, gives the grapes remarkable mineral precision and vibrancy. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand to preserve the quality of the fruit.
Winemaking and aging
The winemaking process for the Terres d'Encre 2024 begins with an extended maceration of two to three weeks, allowing for optimal extraction of colour and aromas. The wine is then aged for 12 months exclusively in used oak barrels, with no new wood, in order to favour a pure expression of the fruit and the identity of the terroir.
