Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Yohan Castaing

The 2024 Tavel La Reine des Bois is a brilliant effort, displaying a more floral, minty profile than its sibling cuvée, La Dame Rousse. Sourced from old vines rooted in sandy soils and galets roulés on the plateau de Vallongue, it bursts from the glass with aromas of crushed strawberries, raspberries, grapefruit, cherries and lilac. Full-bodied, broad and concentrated, the wine on the palate is layered and enveloping, built around a fleshy core of ripe fruit and framed by a fine, delicate tannic structure. A chalky tension underpins the long, focused finish, lending freshness and precision. This is a serious, vinous rosé with aging potential.

60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault, 10% Clairette. Unoaked. Certified organic (AB Agriculture Biologique) and biodynamic (Demeter). Tasted blind. A brightness of fruit on the nose with cranberry and rose. The palate is lively, zippy and bright. Good energy and a little tight tannic grip that gives structure. Attractive and fresh but with good structure. (AC)

Description

A full-bodied and luscious Tavel rosé wine

The estate

The Domaine de la Mordorée was founded in 1986 by Francis Delorme and his son. Located in Tavel, near Avignon, this estate, covering 60 hectares across 38 plots, is the perfect expression of appellations such as Tavel, Lirac, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côtes-du-Rhône, and Condrieu.

The vineyard

La Reine des Bois Tavel Rosé du Domaine de la Mordorée is a Tavel wine from a 3-hectare vineyard located on the Plateau de Vallongue. The vines, averaging 40 years old, are planted on a Villafranchian terrace of rolled pebbles over a sandy-clay subsoil.

Winemaking and aging

Hand-harvested. 100% destemming, cold maceration followed by temperature control. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts.

Blend

The 2024 La Reine des Bois Tavel Rosé from Domaine de la Mordorée is the result of a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Clairette.
