Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for the Général de la Révolution 2023
Tasting
Colour
This white wine reveals a deep, luminous lemon-yellow hue, crossed with delicate green highlights.
Nose
The bouquet opens with a lovely aromatic intensity dominated by floral scents of jasmine and acacia, mingled with the wild herbs of the maquis. Aromas of white peach and white mulberry then emerge, supported by a mineral backbone reminiscent of graphite and gunflint, along with subtle spicy touches.
Palate
The attack is direct, carried by a lovely acidity that structures a fleshy, concentrated body. The palate unfolds flavours of apricot and peach, underscored by an angular minerality and a pronounced saline character. The finish lingers at length on iodine notes with a touch of refreshing bitterness.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with fine shellfish such as grilled spiny lobster or a citrus-scented scallop carpaccio. It also enhances Mediterranean fish such as sea bream or red mullet, as well as vegetable dishes with wild herbs or aged goat's and sheep's milk cheeses.
Service and storage
Blessed with exceptional aging potential, this 2023 vintage will evolve favourably for several decades.
The authentic expression of a great white wine by Domaine Comte Abbatucci
The estate
Officially founded in 1950, Domaine Comte Abbatucci is located in the Taravo valley, in southern Corsica. Now run by Jean-Charles Abbatucci, this estate stands out for its deep commitment to biodynamic viticulture and the preservation of the island's plant heritage. A true pioneer, the estate cultivates a unique collection of ancient native grape varieties rescued from oblivion. Thanks to a philosophy that respects living organisms and innovative agricultural practices, the vineyard produces cuvées of rare authenticity that celebrate the richness of their terroir.
The vineyard
Spanning twenty-one hectares at an altitude of about one hundred and fifty metres, the vineyard benefits from a Mediterranean climate tempered by sea breezes. The vines flourish on particularly well-draining granitic sand soils, promoting optimal concentration in the berries. Farmed according to biodynamic principles within a biodiversity-rich ecosystem, this exceptional terroir gives rise to cuvées classified as Vin de France, offering complete freedom in the expression of local varieties.
Winemaking and aging
The hand-harvested grapes, picked in small crates, undergo rigorous sorting. To craft this cuvée, whole clusters are pressed directly. After static settling, alcoholic fermentation takes place in half-barrels and large oak casks. The wine is then aged on full lees for nine months, followed by two months in tank. Cold tartaric stabilization precedes bottling, after which the wine rests for a further six months before release.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Carcajolu Biancu, Paga Debbiti, Riminese, Rossola Brandica, Biancone and Vermentinu.
