Combining a tradition of excellence with just the right touch of modernity, this is the challenge undertaken by Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion.
This magnificent estate, located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Graves in southern Bordeaux, has chosen a brand new packaging to bring back an emblematic Bordeaux format, which has been all but forgotten since the 1950’s: the Marie-Jeanne.
With a volume of 2.25 litres, the short and flared shape of the Marie-Jeanne had been abandoned in favour of longer bottles in order to facilitate transport. With its unique flared curves, the Marie-Jeanne nevertheless allows for better preservation by enhancing the ageing capacity of the wine.
The idea behind this rare collector’s item came from the talented Guillaume Pouthier, Director of Carmes Haut-Brion, who wished to pay tribute to the heritage and history of Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, while also communicating the leaps toward modernity that have made the estate one of the most important references of the Pessac-Léognan appellation .
This exceptional bottle was custom-created for the occasion and is housed in a transparent glass box, designed to optimise the conservation of the bottle.
Product of an exceptional vintage in the Bordeaux region, the Marie-Jeanne of Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2016 presents the promise of a bright future ahead. The fruit was harvested at the perfect level of ripeness, at a point of developing a great richness in anthocyanins and fresh aromas. The wine displays a perfect balance between ripe fruit, crisp acidity and powerful tannins. Each varietal used in the blend (comprised of 41% Merlot, 39% Cabernet Franc and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon) expresses itself to the fullest, while also forming the perfect symbiosis.
A symbol of a tradition, lost but never forgotten, the Marie-Jeanne Les Carmes Haut-Brion 2016 is truly a model of excellence and a celebration of great Bordeaux wines. A masterpiece from Pessac-Léognan with an exceptional potential of guard, this unique and rare bottle is sure to delight collectors.
