Description
The estate
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion, a large property in Pessac-Léognan, is located on the left bank of Bordeaux. Founded in the 16th century, this estate today delivers an expression of its terroir through the work of its visionary owner and the craftsmen working in the winery. Acquired in 2010 by the Pichet real estate group, Château Les Carmes-Haut-Brion is currently one of the most distinguished wines of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.
The vineyard
Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion produces Pessac-Léognan wines from a 30.75-hectare vineyard, of which 7.60 hectares are dedicated to the estate’s Grand Vin. The vines are nearly 40 years old and are planted on Mindel gravel upon a clay-limestone base.
Vinification and ageing
The hand-picked grapes are rigorously sorted in the vineyard and in the cellar. Whole bunch vinification (45%). Aged in new barrels (70%), new 18-hl tuns (20%) and amphorae (10%).
The blend
Cabernet Franc (40%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (35%)
Merlot (25%).
The 2021 vintage is a seductive wine that offers a plethora of aromas; smoked paprika, incense, violets and pinewood, along with a hint of fresh blackberries.
