The estate
With very ancient origins, Clos René was formerly called "Reney" on the map of the engineer-geographer Pierre de Belleyme. The estate has belonged to the same family for several generations. It is now managed by Jean-Marie Garde.
The vineyard
Clos René is a Pomerol wine that stems from a 15-hectare vineyard, located on the western slope of the appellation's plateau. The vines are planted on gravel and sandy soils dating from the Quaternary period and resting upon a subsoil of iron ore.
The blend
Clos René 2017 comprises a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Clos Rene gives up notes of warm plums, baked black cherries and raspberry preserves with touches of truffles, bay leaves and mossy tree bark. Medium-bodied, the palate has plenty of juicy black fruit with a lively backbone and herbal lift to the finish.
