Decanter

Supple and generous, this has a nice bounce to it with succulent, almost sweet red cherry flavours balanced by liquorice giving a savoury edge and just reining in some of the fruit-forward character. Tannins are lovely, and this has great weight, just a bit brooding right now. Plump and round yet fresh, with a spiced finish.

Neal Martin

The 2020 Siaurac has a well-defined, focused bouquet. The oak is neatly integrated, with light truffle notes filtering through the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins, quite Left Bank in style thanks to the 21% Cabernet Franc, very peppery, with a lively and rather compelling finish. One to watch.

Smoke, truffles, black cherries, licorice, spice and a hint of chocolate create the character here. Supple, creamy and fresh, with sweetness and scorched earth nuances on the palate that work perfectly with all the sweet, fresh cherries and a touch of spearmint in the finish. You can enjoy this young, as well as age it for more secondary nuances. Drink from 2023-2040.

La RVF

Benefiting from a rich and flamboyant 2020, Siaurac has produced a deep wine, though austerity may perhaps dominate, notably due to an ambitious, enveloping maturation choice. That said, its ageing potential is definitely there.

Le Figaro Vin

A ripe, inviting nose with fresh, piercing blue-fruit notes. Lovely freshness on the palate makes the wine enticing and slender. A touch of drying oak on the finish, which should integrate with time.

Yves Beck

At 27 hl/ha, Siaurac shows a decidedly low yield. Regardless of that, quality is what matters most, and that is precisely the focus at Château Siaurac. The bouquet reveals freshness and ripeness, a phenomenon regularly observed in Lalande-de-Pomerol. The wine shows sweetness on the attack, followed by a tightly knit tannic profile. A wine that can already be approached in its youth.

Vertdevin

The nose is fresh, fruity, and offers fine concentration with a lovely, delicate grain. It reveals notes of fresh wild blackberry, strawberry, and, more subtly, vibrant blueberry, along with small touches of bright red berries, cherry blossom, nutmeg, and fine hints of chocolate in the background. The palate is fruity and balanced, with a juicy/tangy framework, good definition, gourmet appeal (in finesse), lovely precision, delicacy, and a certain refined richness. On the palate, the wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, creamy blackcurrant, and, more lightly, violet, combined with touches of crushed strawberry and blueberry, as well as fine hints of chocolate, caramelization, and an imperceptible sappy note in the background. A fine chew on the finish/persistence.

James Suckling

Aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries with tobacco, dark spices and cedar. Medium-bodied with chewy tannins and a juicy fruit character. Flavorful and delicious. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

Description

A balanced and elegant red wine from Lalande de Pomerol

The estate

Château Siaurac is located at the end of the Pomerol plateau, in Néac, in the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation. The château represents three centuries of history and is established on the edge of the Barbane on the border of Pomerol.

The vineyard

The 46.18-hectare vineyard is planted in a mosaic of soils made up of gravel, deep clay and clayey sand. This exceptional Lalande-de-Pomerol vineyard is divided into 40 plots in one piece. The vineyard is in full organic conversion and already certified High Environmental Value 3. The vines are aged by 30 years on average.

The vintage

The historically rainy winter was followed by a hot and humid spring. The hard work done by the château’s teams allowed for good soil management and protected the vines against various pressures. The hot and dry conditions from mid-May incited a flowering which ranked amongst the earliest. From 19 June, the rain gave way to cool and dry weather up to the start of ripening in mid-July. Although the summer was hot and dry, the stormy episodes in mid-August were beneficial for healthy vine development and berry ripening. Harvests began about 10 days in advance compared to recent years.

The winemaking and ageing

Ageing for 14 months, up to 40% in barrels and 60% in concrete tanks.

Blend

Château Siaurac 2020 is made of a blend of Merlot (76%), Cabernet Franc (21%), Malbec (3%).

Tasting

Tasted en primeur, Château Siaurac 2020 reveals a nose with notes of small black fruits and sweet spices. The greatly precise palate seduces with its smooth touch and hearty balance, as well as its intense aromatic palate and elegant freshness.
