Description

A lively and balanced Saint-Julien Grand Cru Classé

The estate

Owned by the Henri Martin estates, Château Saint-Pierre is a Saint-Julien 4th Grand Cru Classé. Under the impetus of the dynamic Henri Martin, the vineyard of Château Saint-Pierre as it existed in 1855 was gradually built back up. The estate is now one of the most famous references in the emblematic appellation.

The vineyard

Château Saint-Pierre 2016 is a Saint-Julien wine from a 17-hectare vineyard. With an average age of 50 years, the vines are planted on Günz gravel and a sandy-clay subsoil. Certified ISO 140001 and HVE 3, the Henri Martin estates, including Château Saint-Pierre, are cultivated using integrated farming methods, with the use of organic and bio-control products.

The vineyard

2016 saw a mild, wet winter that led to early budburst. Spring was cool and rainy, but flowering was saved by a window of fine weather around June 10. Finally, from June 18 onwards, hot, dry weather set in, not slowing growth thanks to high water reserves. Following a dry summer, a rainy spell on September 13 allowed the grapes to perfect their ripening until the harvest, which took place from September 29 to October 17.

Winemaking and ageing

The wine was aged in casks (50% new) for 14-16 months on average.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (73%), Merlot (21%) and Cabernet Franc (6%).
