A 2nd Classified Growth of 1855 belonging to the elite group of Bordeaux Grands Crus, Château Pichon Baron is one of the greatest estates of the Pauillac appellation.
A veritable mosaic of terroirs and superbly located near the Gironde estuary, the Pichon Baron vineyard extends over 73 hectares of vines planted in Médoc gravels soils with perfect drainage. The oldest vines of the property are used in the production of this emblematic Pauillac wine.
The 2016 vintage was characterised by a cold and wet winter, a spring with heavy rainfall (although the flowering period miraculously took place in excellent conditions) and a summer marked by heat and drought. The glorious Indian summer enabled the grapes to ripen perfectly. The harvest took place from Octobre 3rd to 18th.
Vinification and ageing
The wine is aged in barrels, with a proportion of 80% new and 20% second-fill barrels, for 18 months.
Cabernet Sauvignon (85%)
Intense and very pure, the nose combines black fruit fragrances (blackberries, blueberries) with woody (cedar) and mineral (graphite) notes.
Medium-bodied, the palate is seduced by this wine’s refined structure and tight tannins. A silky, creamy feel stretches to a persistent, aromatic finish.
