Decanter

This is a small 5.15ha estate with Eric Boissenot as consultant and owned by Guy Delon, owner of Segur de Cabanac in St-Estèphe (and once upon a time owner of Phélan Ségur). It's rich but soft, with a flourish to it while retaining its sense of honesty. A well-made wine that's not overly finessed, but it's a little abrupt on the finish. A good 51hl/ha yield.

Dark red color. Moderately aromatic nose with pure, fragrant fruit. Very Saint-Julien! Delicate on entry, suave mid-palate, caressing, very pleasant; the wine develops sapid and perfumed notes, not very powerful but very enjoyable. Normal length.

91–93. Barrel Sample. One of the few non-classified growths in Saint-Julien, this estate has produced an elegant wine, ripe with well integrated tannins and juicy acidity. It offers notes of blackberry and a generous texture. Drink from 2024.

Description

A Fruity and Fresh Saint-Julien Full of Charm

A true gem, with its 5 hectares of vineyards planted in the heart of the most famous properties of the prestigious Saint-Julien appellation, Château Moulin de la Rose is one of the properties of the Left Bank of Bordeaux that is small in size but great when it comes to the quality of its wines.

Owned by the Delon family, Château Moulin de la Rose has an exceptional vineyard planted with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes (65%), supplemented by Merlot (25%), planted on the best slopes of the appellation’s Garonne gravel soil. Under the careful watch of Jean-François Delon, the wines of the property are vinified by hand in a way that shows the greatest respect for this prestigious terroir. The wines undergo a traditional ageing in French oak barrels (30% new) over a period of 20 months.
