Robert Parker

Yohan Castaing

The 2022 Blanc from Latour Martillac meets my expectations, showcasing aromas of pear, white peach and flowers. It offers a moderately weighted, tense and bright palate characterized by a juicy core of fruit and bright acids, leading to an incisive finish.

James Molesworth

A lively white, with a mix of tarragon, verbena and thyme backed by lemon curd, star fruit and white peach flavors. A quinine thread adds length and cut on the finish. Delicious. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Drink now through 2029. 2,300 cases made, 500 cases imported.

Decanter

Bright and zesty, super alive on the palate—direct and focused, with a zing to the lemon flavors and a touch of oak still on the finish that slightly detracts from the freshness and easy enjoyment but adds complexity for the long haul.

Lemon curd, honeysuckle, candied orange rind, and roasted pears with a touch of butter crowd into the perfume. The palate continues with the sweet, citrus theme with its vibrant display of green apples, pineapple, lemon curd and white peaches. The wine blends 52% Sauvignon Blanc with 48% Semillon. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2025-2034.

Pale yellow-green with silver reflections. Delicate aromas of herbal savouriness, white tropical fruit, a hint of gooseberry and lime zest underneath. Medium-complexity palate with subtle sweetness. Somewhat broad, with ripe pineapple and lemony nuances. Already developed, has lost some of its initial freshness. (01/2025, PM).

A blend of 52% Sauvignon Blanc and 48% Sémillon, the 2022 Château Latour-Martillac Blanc delivers a chalky, mineral-driven nose with a kiss of reduction, crushed citrus, and mint. Rivetingly pure and full of energy, this aged for 15 months in oak barrels and should drink beautifully for 15+ years. Total production: 2,250 cases.

Restrained start, grapefruit, white blossoms and lime essence. On the slender palate, supported by a nervy acidity and a delicate chalky note. Aromatic finish with gooseberry and wax notes.

Enjoyable, spiced saffron, white pepper and smoked cumin, this has poise and a gentle kick, retaining lime zest and citrus to give lift on the finish. 43 h/ha yield, 25-year-old vines, 8.5 ha vineyard.

Le Figaro Vin

An enticing and lifted nose, flavorful and racy. Dry on the palate, sapid and energetic, it offers subtle notes of pineapple.

With good intensity, the bouquet stands out for its freshness, with notes of limes, fresh pineapple and white pepper. Creamy and linear, the wine is precise and inviting. Best enjoyed in its youth.

Vertdevin

The nose is fresh, with subtle minerality (limestone, even slightly saline), then it reveals a tangy citrus profile—notes of lemon zest, lemon juice, lime zest, and grapefruit—along with a smoky, bitter touch of bergamot, complemented by a hint of blood orange, a touch of apricot, white peach, and a fragrant floral bouquet (acacia, linden, apple blossom, almond blossom, fresh chamomile). There are also aromas of fresh hazelnut, fresh almond, vanilla and toasty notes, with a hint of citrus marmalade in the background. The palate is gourmand, opening on citrus (first lemon and lime zest, then grapefruit, passion fruit, pineapple), stone fruits (apricot, white peach) and white flowers. Vanilla, smoky, spicy and toasty nuances come through afterwards. The finish is precise and mouthwatering, driven by citrus zest and a pleasant bitterness.

Jean-Marc Quarin

Jean-Marc Quarin

Pale color with green highlights. Intense, fruity nose with a hint of anise. Soft on entry, slightly mentholated mid-palate, the wine gains in richness and flavor without losing energy, leading to a long finish. It’s very good. Blend: 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Sémillon. Alcohol: 13.5%. Yield: 43 hl/ha.

Terre de Vins

A delicate, complex nose interweaving notes of citron, white flowers, and a hint of flinty minerality. On the palate, the attack is supported by crystalline acidity that brings lovely freshness. Fruity aromas are joined by hints of toasted brioche and a persistent saline finish.

93-95 Barrel sample. The wine is ripe, a product of the hot, dry year. But it still manages to retain a fresh, spicy character that will develop as the wood aging moves forward.

Description

The freshness and elegance of a Pessac-Léognan white wine

The estate

Château Latour-Martillac owes its name to a tower standing in the main courtyard of the château. This tower is the remnant of a 12th century fortress that controlled the road from Bordeaux to Toulouse. Owned by the Kressmann family since 1871, Château Latour-Martillac was awarded the title of Cru Classé des Graves for both red and white wines in 1953. Today, Tristan and Loïc Kressmann continue the family tradition and the art of making great red and white Graves wines with passion and ambition.

The vineyard

A major name among Pessac-Léognan wines, Château Latour-Martillac oversees a vineyard of 54 hectares, 45 of which are dedicated to red wine and 9 to white. The property benefits from an exceptional location in the appellation. The Martillac plateau is composed of a mosaic of gravel dating from the Quaternary period, made up of flint, quartz, lydian and jasper. These soils are the preferred terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The other main terroir of the property is located near the Garonne river where we find clay-limestone and gravelly soils on the surface. It is here that the Merlot is planted, as well as the white grape varieties of the property with the Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

The vintage

A particularly mild winter and a warm spring led to an early growth cycle. The summer of 2022 was unprecedented in seeing several heat waves peaking at 40 degrees. However, the vines were relieved by rainfall, particularly in August, which allowed them to reach optimal ripeness. For both the whites and the reds, the harvest was particularly early, making 2022 a historic vintage.

Winemaking and ageing

This Château Latour-Martillac 2022 is the third vintage to be vinified in the property's new cellar. Aged in new barrels (25% new).

Blend
