Château La Fleur Peyrabon 2017

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 La Fleur Peyrabon rocks up with notions of baked blackberries, plum preserves and blackcurrant pastilles plus wafts of underbrush, cloves, pencil lead and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is filled with expressive black fruits and a grainy texture, finishing with a spicy lift.

Features the typical austere hint of Pauillac, with an iron note through the core of cassis and bitter plum fruit. Light savory and cedar details fill in on the background. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2024. 2,721 cases made, 767 cases imported.

Often a good value Pauillac, this shows good personality with a kick of oak toasting, rich cassis fruit and menthol notes. An early-drinking wine with punch and direction, and good tannins. The finish is a bit short, but it works.

Deep dark ruby, purple reflections, brightening at the rim, fresh plum fruit, blackberries, hints of cassis and orange zest. Juicy, round and elegant, fresh cherries, integrated tannins, mineral, an uncomplicated food wine.

Rather deep colour with a purple hue. Fine nose offering ripe dark berries, cassis, fine toast, coffee bean and some stony notes. Nice density and freshness on the palate, youthful but ripe tannin, dense and lingering, good grip, persistency and balance. Promising.

Kunz barrel sample 18: Broad, fruity bouquet, plum, wood. Firm, slender palate with delicate fruit, sandy tannins, medium aromatics, bitter finish.

There is still a slight hint of oak in the 2017, which shows a sleek, finely stretched profile. It needs a bit more time.

Juicy, ample, sappy, fruity wine, well-balanced, with supple tannins and a long finish.

Deep garnet color with violet highlights. Superb bouquet marked by notes of mint and cherries. A touch of graphite. On the palate, the wine is dense, compact, and creamy. It has good power that unfolds through the tannins. Beautiful aromatic expression, delicate yet persistent, from the attack through to the finish. A great success. A racy, fruity finish.

The nose is fruity, elegant, with concentration and a delicate freshness. It reveals notes of fleshy gariguette strawberry, fleshy cherry and, more subtly, fleshy blackberry, combined with fine touches of violet and licorice, as well as hints of vanilla. The palate is fruity, balanced, and offers a juicy/slightly tangy backbone and a fine grain. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of juicy/fresh blackberry and juicy/fresh raspberry and, more subtly, fleshy strawberry, combined with small touches of violet and lilac, as well as fine hints of licorice and chocolate. Subtle power on the finish.

Dark color, of normal intensity. Fruity, vanilla-scented nose. Soft on the attack, medium-bodied, the wine finishes aromatic and rather discreet in its overall expression. Normal length.
