Description
A Sauternes wine combining richness, balance, and elegance
The property
Founded in 1851, the Château Doisy-Védrines is located in Barsac, on an ideal clay-limestone terroir for sweet wines. Owned by the Castéja family since the 19th century, it is currently managed by Olivier Castéja and Guillaume Lefebvre. Classified as a Second Grand Cru in 1855, the estate stands out for its traditional practices, such as manual harvesting in several passes, and its limited production enhancing its exclusivity.
The vineyard
The vines of Château Doisy-Védrines thrive on the clay-limestone soils of Barsac, a commune located within the Sauternes appellation. This geological peculiarity, combined with the proximity of the Ciron and the Garonne, promotes the development of Botrytis cinerea, this noble fungus essential for the production of great sweet wines. The unique microclimate of this region allows the grapes to reach an exceptional concentration while preserving a beautiful freshness.
Vinification and aging
The harvest was carried out manually with a rigorous selection of grapes in four successive passes. After gentle pressing, the musts were fermented and then aged in French oak barrels, 50% of which were new, under the supervision of consulting oenologist Hervé Romat. This meticulous process has resulted in a wine of great finesse and complexity.
Grape varieties
This Château Doisy-Védrines 2024 is the result of a blend of sémillon (84%), sauvignon blanc (14%), and muscadelle (2%).
