Description

An Excellent Vintage for a Grand Cru Classé of Margaux

A 5th Classified Growth of 1855, Château Dauzac is one of the largest estates of the very famous Margaux appellation, on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region.

Thanks to the efforts and ambition of the property’s Director since 2012, Laurent Fortin, Château Dauzac has become one of the greatest Crus of the Médoc, shining bright in its most recent vintages.

As the greatest terroirs of the Médoc look to the Gironde River to create a unique microclimate, the superb vineyard of Château Dauzac is located right next to the estuary. The property expands over a 49 planted hectares in one piece, a rarity indeed in Bordeaux, situated in a privileged on a ridge of gravel upon a gravelly clay subsoil.

These great terroirs were fortunately spared by the frost that hit the vineyards of Bordeaux at the end of April 2017. The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness on the fruiting days of the biodynamic calendar. From the vineyard to the cellar, extreme care was taken by the technical teams, led by Philippe Roux and advised by the consultant winemaker Éric Boissenot. The meticulous intra-plot selection made possible the tailor-made vinifications, which highlight the precision and quality of the vintage.

The Château Dauzac 2017 rewards the efforts of this year. With a blend largely dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and complemented by Merlot (30%), the Château Dauzac 2017 is a refined wine indeed. The brilliance and purity of the fruit become evident quickly on the nose. The palate then reveals fruity flavours and spices, gently structured by the tannins brought to the wine by the Cabernet Sauvignon. Meanwhile, the Merlot seduces the palate with its characteristic roundness, ending in a finish of great length. A superb Margaux, highlighting the precise work of the winemaking team.
