Space limitations preclude including tasting notes. 2002 was an average vintage.

Aromas of apple crumble and cream. Full-bodied. Round and sweet, with good ripe pineapple and honey character. Medium finish. Not much to it for Coutet. Best after 2006. 4,165 cases made.

Relatively pale, fresh yellow. On the nose, an intense, rich bouquet of cooked orange peel, a hint of quince, plenty of honey. Supple, soft palate with lots of charm, apple-pectin note, gentle dryness lending a slightly grainy touch, the finish also slightly drying.

03: Relatively pale, fresh yellow. Intense, opulent bouquet; candied orange peel, a hint of quince and plenty of honey. Plush, soft palate with lots of charm, apple note (pectin), gentle dry grip that gives the wine a slightly grainy texture and also dries the finish slightly. (17/20). 11: A magnum at a dinner at Smith Haut-Lafitte. Mirabelle plums, chamomile, a hint of light saffron. Juicy on the palate, shows openness and thus early maturity.

Bettane+Desseauve

One of the pinnacles of the vintage, a wine of irresistible charm, with purity and aromatic transparency that make it the ideal expression of the Barsac style. To be enjoyed without moderation...

Sun-yellow color. Fruity, stewed-fruit nose. Soft, silky palate, very fruity and perfumed. Lovely finish with a touch of caramel.

Description

2002 Barsac 1er Cru Classe

Chateau Coutet name refers to distinctive lively, fresh, tense and very unique style of the wines produced in the Barsac appellation -Coutet means "knife" in the Gascon dialect. The 2002 Chateau Coutet interesting blend combines higher proportions of Semillion with smaller quantities of Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle.

The wine displays a beautiful copper-tinted colour. The generous and very open nose exudes complex aromas: beeswax, quince paste, and dry fruits. The attack is round and generous, with great balance between concentration and freshness. The palate offers honey and rock candy flavours mixed with spices and vanilla. The finish reveals great mineral character, freshness, lovely length and very ripe exotic fruits.
