Description
Château Calon Ségur 2005: The Nobility of Saint-Estèphe
A Third Growth in the 1855 Classification, Château Calon Ségur is one of the oldest estates in the Médoc, with historians tracing the presence of Calon back to Gallo-Roman times. Later, in the 18th century, the property grew considerably under the Marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, who also owned Latour, Lafite and Mouton.
The 2005 vintage was exceptional in Bordeaux. On the great terroir of Saint-Estèphe, home to Château Calon Ségur, the vintage yielded a superb wine defined by the finesse and elegance that are the estate's signature. It strikes a fine balance between exceptional intensity and great softness: the tannins are present yet full of finesse, and the texture is at once caressing and dense. Château Calon Ségur 2005 offers attractive aromas of black fruit (notably black cherry), with hints of chocolate, spice, dried fruit and even leather. A Saint-Estèphe that is already wonderfully approachable and will comfortably age through to 2045-2050.
