James Lawther MW

58% Sémillon, 42% Sauvignon Blanc. RS 125 g/L. Certified organic. Cask sample. Pale gold. Mandarin and marmalade notes. Sweet but zesty at the same time. Clean and lingering. Bitter, botrytised finish. Harmonious and appealing now. Clearly on an upward curve. (JL)

Honeyed, white peaches, pineapples, vanilla, and apricots create the core of the wine here. Fresh, vibrant, sweet, and with a spicy note that rides on top of its vanilla, and honeyed, yellow, tropical fruits, you can enjoy this on release and for about 15 years with pleasure. Drink from 2027-2040. 90-92 Pts

Le Figaro Vin

All roundness and opulence, the nose opens with ripe aromas of apricot, yellow peach, papaya and smoked paprika. Fresher on the palate, it offers a tangy backbone reminiscent of pineapple, passion fruit and nectarine, accompanied by energetic mineral and citrus notes. This freshness carries through to the finish and counterbalances a creamy sweetness.

A fresh and gourmet Sauternes wine

The property

Founded in the 18th century, Château Bastor-Lamontagne is a vineyard located in Preignac, in the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux. Since 2018, the Helfrich family has owned it, with a strong commitment to organic farming. The sandy-gravelly and clay-limestone terroir gives the wines a distinctive freshness and elegance, while the motto "Nil sine Fide" underlines the historical heritage of the estate.

The vineyard

Stretching over 52 hectares in one piece, this Sauternes vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir, characterized by sandy-gravelly and clay-limestone soils that bring minerality and finesse to the wines.

The vintage

The year 2024 began with a mild winter favoring early bud break. Spring was marked by high temperatures and abundant rains, allowing for homogeneous flowering. The summer, hot and relatively dry, led to a regular veraison although slightly delayed. The rainy autumn, followed by a welcome break, allowed for harvest under good climatic conditions. This favorable weather gave perfectly ripe grapes, promising wines that are both rich and balanced.

Vinification and aging

Harvest carried out in two successive tries, on September 18 and October 23. A portion of the grapes was harvested in crates to preserve their integrity. Each try and each plot benefited from a pressing adapted to their characteristics. Fermentation took place in small stainless steel vats before transfer to French oak barrels, some of which were new. Aging continued with 30% new barrels, giving the wine structure and complexity.

Blend

58% sémillon and 42% sauvignon blanc.
