Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Corton Grand Cru "Bressandes" 2022 from Chandon de Briailles
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine reveals a deep red hue adorned with purple reflections.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet displays remarkable complexity, opening with aromas of black fruits such as black cherry and blackcurrant, intertwined with notes of red cherry and vanilla. These are complemented by nuances of sweet spices, undergrowth, precious woods, sandalwood, long pepper and leather.
Palate
The palate offers an elegant and assertive tannic structure, supported by a chalky, spicy minerality. Ample and voluptuous, the palate unfolds with a long-lasting finish.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs ideally with characterful meats such as a grilled rib of beef, a beef bourguignon, or game like roasted pheasant, wild duck or venison. It also pairs beautifully with washed-rind cheeses, blue-veined cheeses or long-aged cheeses.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Corton Grand Cru "Bressandes" 2022 at a temperature between 16 and 18°C, taking care to decant it approximately two hours beforehand. This wine can be cellared and enjoyed from 2027 onwards, and will evolve favourably until around 2037.
The Burgundian authenticity of Domaine Chandon de Briailles
The estate
Located in France, in the Burgundy region, Domaine Chandon de Briailles was acquired in 1834 by Countess Chandon de Briailles and Pierre Guillemot. Today, the estate belongs to Count and Countess Aymard-Claude de Nicolay, while management is entrusted to their children, Claude and François de Nicolay. This 13.7-hectare family estate stands out for its environmentally respectful approach, certified biodynamic since 2011, and for the use of animal traction to preserve the vitality of its soils.
The vineyard
The Corton Grand Cru "Bressandes" comes from four plots stretching over slightly more than one hectare, situated mid-slope and facing east. The vines, averaging around forty years of age, thrive on a terroir composed of ferruginous clays and limestone, encouraging deep rooting.
The vintage
The 2022 season began with a mild winter followed by a wet March. Budbreak and vegetative growth progressed slowly through the spring. Flowering occurred in early June with rising temperatures. Summer was marked by considerable heat in July, tempered by a few localised storms that helped avoid hydric stress, before a cooler August prolonged the ripening process. The harvest took place in the first half of September, exclusively in the morning to preserve the freshness of the berries.
Winemaking and aging
For this Corton Grand Cru "Bressandes" 2022, 80% of the harvest is kept as whole clusters. Fermentation takes place naturally in open truncated oak vats for around fifteen days, accompanied by daily manual punch-downs. Aging then continues for 15 to 18 months in 228-litre oak barrels, with a proportion limited to 15% new oak. The wine is bottled by gravity, without filtration or fining.
