Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 Bruno Colin
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a deep red hue, ranging between ruby and garnet, with lovely intensity and great brightness.
Nose
Generous and expressive, the nose exudes aromas of red berries such as raspberry and blackcurrant. It then opens onto delicate spicy notes, underscored by an earthy, mineral touch typical of its terroir.
Palate
The palate seduces with its round, smooth and elegant texture. The tannins are supple and perfectly integrated, accompanied by subtle woody nuances. The finish is persistent, combining lovely concentration with preserved freshness.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs beautifully with poultry in sauce, white meats such as veal, or mushroom-based dishes like risotto. It will also enhance a fine charcuterie board or soft, ripened cheeses such as brie.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate the Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature of around 16°C in a Burgundy-style glass. Decanting for thirty minutes to an hour before serving is advised to allow it to release all its aromas. Approachable in its youth, this wine has the structure needed to age in the cellar until around 2033.
Other characteristics
This vintage stands out for a slightly higher pH and lower malic acidity than usual. Its natural alcohol content reaches 13.5%.

The estate
Founded in 2004 following the division of the Michel Colin-Deléger family estate, Domaine Bruno Colin is an essential name in Burgundy. Now at the helm of the estate, Bruno Colin carries on know-how passed down through three generations. The vineyard spans 8.75 hectares across around thirty plots at the heart of the Côte de Beaune. The winemaker favours a sustainable approach, free of synthetic inputs, allowing each terroir to express its own identity through respectful winemaking.
The vineyard
The "Vieilles Vignes" cuvée is crafted from a blend of around four plots located within the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. The vines, with an average age of forty-five years and some exceeding half a century, thrive on soils composed of clay and limestone. This terroir benefits from a continental climate ideal for growing vines, while the advanced age of the vines naturally keeps yields in check and produces highly concentrated berries.
The vintage
2023 began with a warm, dry winter and spring, encouraging early budburst and a uniform flowering in May. After a stormy June and a mild end of summer, September was marked by an exceptional heatwave. These end-of-cycle conditions allowed for optimal phenolic ripeness and excellent sugar concentration, while retaining remarkable freshness thanks to the resilience of the old vines against climatic variations.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes intended for the Chassagne-Montrachet Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 are hand-harvested, carefully sorted and fully destemmed. After a brief cold maceration, fermentation begins thanks to indigenous yeasts, accompanied by gentle pump-overs under strict temperature control. The wine is then aged in oak barrels, one-third of which are new, for around twelve months. Finally, it rests for four to six months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
