Characteristics and Tasting Notes of Bouchard Père & Fils Pommard 1er Cru "Les Pézerolles" 2019
Tasting Notes
Appearance
The colour reveals a bright garnet hue with subtle mauve reflections.
Nose
The nose opens with a perfumed, floral bouquet, blending aromas of small red fruits such as cherry and raspberry. With aeration, it reveals fine complexity with notes of orange zest and kirsch, along with delicate woody and spicy touches.
Palate
Rich and full-bodied, the palate offers a generous texture supported by ample, velvety tannins. It stands out for its sleek, vibrant structure, extending into a persistent and harmonious finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This gastronomic wine pairs wonderfully with feathered game, roasted poultry or grilled red meats. It will also complement great Burgundian classics such as beef bourguignon, as well as characterful cheeses like Époisses or aged Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve the Pommard 1er Cru "Les Pézerolles" 2019 at a temperature between 17 and 18°C. Boasting excellent cellaring potential, this wine can be kept until around 2029.
The Finesse and Elegance of a Great Pommard Premier Cru
The Estate
Founded in 1731 in Beaune by Michel Bouchard, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest in Burgundy. Historically endowed with an extensive estate, the property today cultivates around fifty hectares of vines following a recent restructuring. Acquired in 2022, it now belongs to the Artémis Domaines group. Under the technical direction of Frédéric Weber, the estate stands out for its deep environmental commitment and its use of the spectacular underground cellars of the Château de Beaune, acquired in 1820, for ageing its wines.
The Vineyard
Located in the Côte de Beaune, the Pommard terroir is renowned for its structured red wines. The Premier Cru climat "Les Pézerolles", situated in the north of the appellation, stands out for its ability to produce wines of great finesse, often compared to those of Volnay. The estate practises sustainable viticulture here, fostering biodiversity through the preservation of natural habitats and a gradual conversion to organic farming initiated back in 2009.
Winemaking and Ageing
The winemaking of the Pommard 1er Cru "Les Pézerolles" 2019 is carried out on a plot-by-plot basis at the modern facilities in Savigny-lès-Beaune, in order to faithfully honour the identity of this singular climat. The wine is then aged in the historic galleries of the Château de Beaune, offering optimal ageing conditions to refine the structure of this red wine from Burgundy.
