Description

Tasting Notes and Recommendations for Meursault 1er Cru "Les Gouttes d'Or" Domaine 2023 by Bouchard Père & Fils

Tasting Notes

Appearance
Even in its youth, this white wine reveals a brilliant golden hue, promising a fine richness of texture that will grow in intensity over the years.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with indulgent notes of fresh butter and stone fruits such as peach and apricot. Delicate touches of white flowers complete this rich and complex ensemble.

Palate
The palate reveals a velvety texture and beautiful opulence, perfectly balanced by a pronounced minerality. The fruity and pastry-like flavours linger at length, leading to a remarkably persistent finish.

Food and Wine Pairings

This great white wine pairs wonderfully with foie gras, whether pan-seared or served as a terrine. It also enhances fish and poultry in creamy sauces, fine shellfish, as well as mushroom or truffle risottos. For cheese lovers, a moderately aged Comté or Beaufort will make a wise choice.

Serving and Cellaring

To fully appreciate the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Gouttes d'Or" Domaine 2023, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 15°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be enjoyed from 2025, continuing to evolve favourably until around 2032.

The Estate

Founded in 1731 in Beaune, the house of Bouchard Père & Fils is a true institution in Burgundy. Historically a négociant house, it has built up an exceptional heritage over the centuries. The estate now spans approximately 130 hectares in the Côte d'Or, the majority of which are premier and grand cru vineyards. Certified High Environmental Value since 2012, the estate combines tradition and modernity, notably through its historic cellars at the Château de Beaune. The estate currently belongs to the Artémis Domaines group, majority-owned by the Pinault family, under the leadership of Frédéric Engerer.

The Vineyard

The climat Les Gouttes d'Or lies at the heart of the Meursault appellation, at an altitude of around 260 metres. The plot farmed by the estate covers approximately 0.55 hectares on an east-facing slope. The vines, around 35 years old, thrive on clay-limestone soils resting on a highly draining rocky limestone subsoil. This specific terroir gives the grapes optimal ripening and a strong mineral character.

Winemaking and Ageing

The grapes are hand-harvested in small crates to preserve the integrity of the bunches, followed by rigorous sorting. After gentle, gradual pressing, the wine is vinified in French oak barrels for 9 to 10 months, with a moderate proportion of around 15% new oak. The final blend is then refined in stainless steel tanks for 3 to 4 months before bottling.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
