Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Morgeot" 2024 by Vincent Girardin
Tasting notes
Appearance
Clear and bright, the wine reveals a luminous pale gold hue.
Nose
Powerful and beautifully complex, the nose releases aromas of fresh citrus, white fruits and stone fruits, delicately interwoven with notes of vine blossom. The whole is underpinned by a fine chalky minerality and subtle toasted touches.
Palate
Ample and dense, the palate charms with its generous volume, perfectly balanced by structuring tension. The mineral backbone stretches the wine with elegance to a fresh, savoury finish of remarkable persistence.
Food and wine pairings
This great white wine from France pairs wonderfully with fine fish in creamy sauces, pike quenelles or shellfish. It will also enhance white meats served with mushrooms, as well as pressed cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and cellaring
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Morgeot" 2024 at a temperature of around 12°C. With excellent ageing potential, this wine can rest in the cellar and evolve favourably until around 2039.

The estate
The story of Maison Vincent Girardin began in the early 1980s when the eponymous founder took over a few hectares of family vineyards in Burgundy. Based in Meursault, the estate quickly stood out for its quality-driven approach and its early conversion to biodynamics in 1997. Sold in 2012 to Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois, now chaired by Jean-Pierre Nié, the property has preserved its identity intact. Under the technical direction of Éric Germain, who has been present since 2002, the house continues to showcase the finest Burgundian terroirs through cuvées of great purity.
The vineyard
This wine comes from the vast and prestigious "Morgeot" climat, located in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet, in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune. The vines, averaging around forty years old, thrive on a contrasted terroir composed of chalky horizons on the upper slopes and deeper clay soils at the bottom of the hillside, all resting on a clay-limestone subsoil. The vineyard is tended with great care, without herbicides or insecticides, favouring rigorous canopy management to control yields and encourage the natural expression of the terroir.
The vintage
The 2024 year proved particularly demanding from a climatic standpoint. The heavy weather pressure required constant vigilance and intense agronomic work throughout the growing cycle. Despite these ongoing challenges, the efforts made in the vineyards allowed for the harvest of high-quality berries, giving rise to a very promising vintage.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvest of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru "Morgeot" 2024 is carried out exclusively by hand, followed by meticulous sorting on the vine and then at the winery. After gentle pneumatic pressing and light settling, the musts begin their fermentations thanks to indigenous yeasts and bacteria. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 15 to 18 months in French oak barrels, of which around 15% are new, without excessive bâtonnage in order to preserve the tension. Bottling takes place in harmony with the lunar calendar, after a light fining and gentle filtration.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
