Burgundian Excellence by Verget
The Estate
Founded in 1990 by the Belgians Jean-Marie Guffens and Maine Heynen, the négociant house Verget is based in Sologny, in the heart of Burgundy. A true pioneer of "haute couture" négoce, the house stands out for its exclusive purchase of top-quality grapes rather than finished wines, allowing complete control over quality. Today, Jean-Marie Guffens remains the owner and director of this renowned house, supported since 2012 by cellar master Julien Desplans. Verget is renowned for its white wines combining precision, minerality and richness.
The Vineyard
The Mâcon-Pierreclos comes from vines located in the southern part of the Mâconnais. The plots, often made up of old vines, extend over slopes with varied aspects and rest on predominantly limestone soils dating from the Jurassic period. This distinctive geography gives the grapes fine concentration as well as pronounced minerality. The house requires rigorous viticultural practices from its partners, favouring limited yields, the pursuit of optimal ripeness and exclusively hand-harvested grapes.
Vinification and Ageing
The production of the Mâcon-Pierreclos 2025 follows the house's exacting principles. After hand harvesting and rigorous sorting, the grapes are gently and slowly pressed in a pneumatic press to preserve the purity of the juices. Fermentations start spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for an extended period on its lees, often with regular bâtonnage, which adds texture to the wine while limiting unnecessary intervention.
Grape Variety
100% Chardonnay.
