  • For Chateau Mouton Rothschild, the 2012 vintage was year was full of contrasts. A cold and dry winter was followed by an unreliable spring and an exceedingly dry summer. The harvest began on October 1 and ended on October 15. 2012 will be a historic year as the new cellars, after almost three years of work, welcomed its first harvest.

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
Tasted at the Mouton-Rothschild vertical in London, the 2012 Mouton-Rothschild clearly has the upper hand over the 2011, if not quite at the level of the 2009, 2010 and what I envisage will be the 2015. There is obviously greater fruit intensity here, as if the contrast has been dialed up a couple of notches. It is quite showy on the nose, preening in its infancy with pure black cherries, graphite and hints of cold slate-like scents, later that hint of seaweed I observed when tasted blind a few months earlier. The palate is beautifully balanced with great vim and vigor. This is a Mouton that will not be put down - vivacious, vivid and delineated with wonderful focus and crucially, impressive persistence on the finish. Do not underestimate this Mouton-Rothschild, because I can see an upswing as it matures in bottle. Tasted April 2016.

  • Wine Advocate-Parker :
The iconic 2012 Proprietary Red Opus One is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 6% Merlot and 2% Malbec aged 18 months in French oak. A classy, complex, suave and savory 2012 Opus One, with notes of toasty oak and crème de cassis. This Pauillac lookalike, made by the staff at Mouton Rothschild, is a beauty. They have continued to strengthen the quality of wine and seem to have produced a brilliant, world-class wine. I imagine the 2013 may even eclipse this, but this 2012 is one of their great ones, with a seamless integration of acidity, tannin, alcohol and wood all present in this beautiful, full-bodied wine that should drink well for 25-30 years.

The 2012 Solaia is the ultimate comfort wine: It serves as a beautiful monument to the potential of Italian wine. Let me give you some context. My lukewarm review of the 2011 vintage caused some heads to turn. Happily, the previous vintage has served as a springboard for this current release. Both 2011 and 2012 come from hot climatic conditions, but these wines are very different in style and content. The 2011 heat softened the lines that make up the varietal identity of this celebrated Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese. Those lines are presented in sharp focus with the 2012 edition. The nose is redolent of dark berry, crushed mineral, plum, spice and touch of white pepper. The wine is integrated and seamless, but it speaks with a strong and articulate voice.

  • Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2013 Redigaffi is a masterpiece from Coastal Tuscany. This is a phenomenal Merlot that offers so much intensity and generosity. These traits don't come easy and great risk is taken to give the grapes as much time as needed to ripen on the vines before harvest. Aromas of dark cherry, spice, wet earth and grilled herb are developed with stunning focus and precision. This is a thickly layered wine that literally sticks to your gums with gripping presence and ample power. The alcohol is is high and so is the dry extract, but both elements are well balanced and integrated. Ultimately, more importance is given to the complexity of the bouquet and it's fluid, ever-changing behavior. This wine just begs to be consumed, but bigger rewards await those who have the patience to wait. Don't miss this beauty.

Tasted blind at the annual "Burgfest" tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Chevalier-Montrachet Les Demoiselles Grand Cru had a strange nose, very concentrated and powerful with intense dried honey and tinned peach notes, but it does not exude real pedigree. The palate is pleasantly saline on the entry, some edginess coming through, the acidity well judged. It seems to expend all its energy on the entry and then scarpers out of the exit door with bit too much haste. This is a difficult one to work out. Tasted May 2016.

  • 2013 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru (Chardonnay)

Maison Faiveley's 2013 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is 100% Chardonnay. This Burgundy white reveals scents of wood, fruits, and flowers. The concentrated palate offers superb balance and remarkable aromatic persistence. This Grand Cru requires several years to reveal its character and potential.

Legend has it that Charlemagne owned the Corton slope, from which red wines were produced at first. However, the Emperor's wife, who worried about the royal image, rebuked her husband for staining his bear with his favourite red wine. The Emperor ordered the red-grape vines be replaced with white in order to preserve the peace at home all the while indulging his affection for Corton wines.

  • "The 2005 Dom Perignon opens with the classic Dom Perignon bouquet. Warm toasty notes meld into expressive fruit in a supple, silky Champagne endowed with stunning depth, nuance and complexity. Sweet floral notes add lift as the wine opens up in the glass. Overall, the 2005 is a relatively delicate, gracious DP, but what it lacks in depth it more than makes up with persistence and its open, totally inviting personality. Today it's hard to see the 2005 making old bones, but it is a gorgeous wine to drink while the 2004 ages... All I can say is the 2005 is fabulous, especially in a vintage that required considerable sorting to eliminate rampant rot in the Pinots." 95 Points, Antonio Galloni

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2005 Dom Pérignon has a brilliant white-golden color and is intense on the yeasty nose, where vegetal aromas along with almond and rather discreet fruit flavors are displayed, before they intensify and become more rich. Firm, fresh and elegant, this is a full-bodied, complex and pretty rich, well concentrated and creamy-textured DP with a tightly woven structure; it has a still somewhat edgy finish. There is bit more Pinot Noir than usual in this blend, whereas the produced quantity is relatively low. Due to strict selections, just the half of the normal quantity was produced.

  • St Henri 2012 from Penfolds : an Australian red wine with fine and delicate tannins

A red wine that blends 97% Shiraz and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, St Henri 2012 from Penfolds is produced in Australia. This wine comes from vineyards in various regions (Barossa ValleyMcLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills, Robe, Clare Valley). The wine is aged for 13 months in large oak vats, which are over 50 years old.

The St. Henri 2012 of Penfolds displays a deep red crimson colour. The nose releases fragrances of red currants, red licorice and rhubarb. The wine then reveals on the nose earthy notes and game. Solid in the mouth, the wine offers flavours of juniper, cinnamon, nutmeg and dry herbs, before tasty touches of white chocolate, mocha and praline. The tannins are well integrated, fine and delicate. The St Henri 2012 is very well balanced. To be consumed before 2045.

    Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2012 Shiraz St Henri is very impressive with its elegant, sophisticated and well-crafted expression of this superb vintage. As always, there is no new oak employed here, simply 50+ year old large oak vats. This vintage has a dollop (3%) Cabernet Sauvignon, contributing a lovely cassis lift to the heady perfume. Deep garnet-purple colored, it displays a gorgeous nose of commendable purity and intensity with notes of red and blackcurrants, freshly crushed blackberries, menthol, cinnamon stick, bacon fat and cloves. Rich and already expressive on the palate, it is nonetheless built for the long haul with firm, ripe and grainy tannins carrying the fruit to a long and layered finish. This should be a long-lived St Henri that should cellar gracefully for at least 2 decades.

  • Wine Advocate-Parker :
The 2013 Almaviva couldn't have had a more different growing season from 2012, as 2013 was wetter and cooler than the average. It was a good year for Cabernet Sauvignon, which took the leading role with a 72% in the final blend alongside 19% Carmenère (a grape that tends to suffer in cooler years), 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Merlot. It had a classical vinification in stainless steel and an élevage of 18 months in 74% new French barriques. In the last few years, the blend comes from approximately two-thirds older vines (37-years-old) and one-third from younger ones (11-years-old); for other parts of the world, this might seem young, but in this part of Chile where the vines do not tend to have a long life, they are relatively old. 2013 was also a higher yielding vintage, which somehow helped produce balanced juice. The wine is fresher and more fluid, not as concentrated as previous vintages. It has a subtle nose with very nicely integrated spicy aromas from the élevage. The palate is very approachable, soft and velvety, with very good balance and a fine texture because of the very fine tannins. In a way it reminds me of the texture of the 2006, which is possibly the most Burgundian of their vintages. Yes, it's still a baby, but a baby that is approachable from now on, and should have a long life and development in bottle. 165,000 bottles were filled between January 5th and 14th of 2015.

  • Wine Advocate-Parker :
Pio Cesare's 2011 Barolo Ornato is an opulent and exuberant wine that delivers all the fullness, roundness and soft ripeness of the vintage. Ornato is designed as a softer expression of Nebbiolo (it sees 18 months in barrique plus one year in traditional oak cask). This richer style suits the wine very well in 2011. It peels back to reveal deep layers of black cherry, blackberry preserves, spice and leather. It will lose some of its baby fat with five years or more in the cellar.

  • 2014 Rosé Garrus is a blend of Grenache and Rolle, from superior quality plots. Garrus 2014 is a harmonious and fine rosé wine, produced by Château d'Esclans
It shows a salmon pink colour with pale glints. It offers hawthorn and white flower notes on the nose which turn into very subtle, almost undetectable, toasted notes. 2014 Rosé Garrus marks the palate with a great sweetness. Its mouthfeel is of a perfect finesse and gives an exceptional length which make this wine an uncommon rosé that shows the characteristics of its Côte de Provence appellation. The finish of this vintage 2014 echoes the aromas of white flowers, which were already present on the nose.
