Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Thibault Liger-Belair's Moulin-à-Vent "Vieilles Vignes" 2022
Tasting notes
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful deep red hue with violet nuances.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with vibrant notes of red and black fruits, accompanied by delicate touches of violet and sweet spices. With aeration, subtle mineral notes emerge, highlighting the freshness and ripeness of the fruit.
Palate
The attack is generous, giving way to a fleshy mid-palate dominated by flavours of black cherry and blackberry. The refined acidity provides a lovely structure, supported by silky, elegant tannins. The finish is long and flavourful, softening pleasantly with a little air.
Food and wine pairing
This red wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry, white meats in sauce or fine cuts of beef. It will also perfectly accompany a selection of aged cheeses.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate its complexity, it is recommended to let this wine breathe before serving. With great aging potential, this Moulin-à-Vent "Vieilles Vignes" 2022 will develop beautifully over the years in the cellar.
The elegance and authenticity of a great Beaujolais wine
The estate
The family history began in 1720 with a wine merchant house, but it was in 2001 that Domaine Thibault Liger-Belair was founded under the impetus of Thibault Liger-Belair. Historically established in Burgundy on the Côte de Nuits, the estate has extended its expertise and rigour to the heart of Beaujolais. The estate stands out for its strong environmental approach and its soil-respectful viticulture, seeking to express the quintessence of each terroir.
The vineyard
The Moulin-à-Vent "Vieilles Vignes" cuvée comes from historic plots within the appellation. The deeply rooted vines flourish on granitic soils rich in manganese, typical of this prestigious cru. The vineyard is cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles, with meticulous soil work to preserve the vitality of the land. This rigorous attention to terroir is reflected in every bottle.
The vintage
The year 2022 was marked by contrasting weather conditions, with a hot, dry summer. Thanks to their deep roots, the old vines were able to draw on the resources needed to produce exceptionally ripe grapes, while retaining lovely freshness and perfect balance.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes are hand-harvested at full ripeness and rigorously sorted. Winemaking is carried out gently to extract the finesse of the aromas and the delicacy of the tannins. Aging is carried out with care to give the wine depth while preserving the brightness of the fruit and the distinctive expression of its terroir of origin.
