Description

Characteristics and Tasting Recommendations for Radian Vineyard Chardonnay 2021 from The Hilt

Tasting

Nose
The bouquet reveals remarkable complexity with floral notes of honeysuckle and lavender honey, accompanied by aromas of white truffle, grilled corn and lemon cream.

Palate
The attack is distinguished by its precision and liveliness, offering a texture that is both dense and well-defined. The palate reveals a bright acidity that structures the whole, with a mid-palate sweetness adding depth. Agave, lime zest, orange blossom, lemongrass, guava, passion fruit and even wet stone are aromas that blend harmoniously, supported by a characteristic saline minerality.

Food and Wine Pairings

This Chardonnay pairs perfectly with mushroom-based dishes, highlighting its earthy notes and aromatic complexity.

Serving and Cellaring

This white wine is ideally enjoyed at a temperature of 10-12°C to reveal all of its aromatic finesse.

A Californian white wine with complex aromas and pronounced minerality

The Estate

Created in 2008 in California, The Hilt spans three distinct vineyards in the AVAs of Santa Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley: Bentrock, Radian and Puerta del Mar. Owned by Stan Kroenke (also owner of Screaming Eagle and the Burgundy estate Bonneau du Martray), the estate is managed by winemaker Matt Dees, who has favored an organic approach since 2014. Specializing in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, The Hilt stands out for its high-altitude terroirs with poor soils influenced by the maritime climate.

The Vineyard

The vineyard dedicated to the production of this California wine is located in the Santa Rita Hills appellation, benefiting from a particularly favorable exposure. The 14-year-old vines thrive on this exceptional terroir, divided into different plots planted with specific clones.

Winemaking and Aging

It is aged for 11 months, 85% in French oak barrels and 15% in stainless steel tanks. Thereafter, the wine continues its development for an additional 5 months in stainless steel tank on full lees, bringing richness and complexity to the whole.

Grape Variety

100% Chardonnay.
