The expression of altitude by Terrazas de los Andes in Mendoza
The estate
Founded in 1996, the Terrazas de los Andes estate is a pioneer of high-altitude winemaking. Located in Luján de Cuyo in the Mendoza region, the estate belongs to the Moët-Hennessy group. Under the leadership of Lucas Löwi, the estate stands out for its environmental commitment, recycling nearly all of its waste and reusing all of its wastewater. Drawing on three decades of expertise, this producer crafts wines renowned worldwide for their freshness, born at the foot of the Andes mountain range.
The vineyard
The grapes come from terraced plots located in the Valle de Uco, specifically in the Gualtallary and El Peral sectors. Rising to between 1,230 and 1,650 meters in altitude, these vines, currently transitioning to organic farming, thrive on sandy-loam soils rich in limestone, sand, and gravel. The vineyard benefits from a wide diurnal temperature range and precision irrigation fed by glacial water.
The vintage
The growing season presented specific climatic conditions that influenced berry development. Following a previous year marked by several heatwaves, this vintage required particular attention. The harvest was carried out early to capture the freshness of the fruit before reaching maximum sugar ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
As soon as they are harvested, the grapes for this 2024 Chardonnay are immediately pressed and then left to settle. Fermentation begins in temperature-controlled tanks before finishing in oak barrels. A partial malolactic fermentation is carried out to preserve the wine's vibrancy. The wine is then aged on the lees in oak barrels for eight months, adding complexity before stabilization, filtration, and bottling.
Grape variety
100% Chardonnay.
