A great Argentine wine seductive in concentration and precision
The property
Founded by pioneers, adopted by the local population and shaped by the Andes, Terrazas de Los Andes can boast of being a property in Argentina with a recent but rich history. Three decades ago, Hervé Birnie-Scott, a French agronomist, decided to join the lands of South America to elevate Argentine wines to the rank of great wines with worldwide renown. The challenge is brilliantly met as today Terrazas de Los Andes stands as an emblem of great Argentine wines.
The vineyard
This Grand Malbec comes from three vineyards in Argentina: Los Chacayes (45%), Paraje Altamira (30%) and Las Compuertas (25%), all located respectively between 1070, 1100 and 1250 meters above sea level. The soils vary between limestone, rocks, sands and loams. Thus, the malbec from these three terroirs offers a character full of nuances: at the lowest, it is round and elegant, elsewhere it reveals floral and aromatic herb notes and even higher it presents a beautiful minerality and a bright freshness.
The vintage
The year 2020 in Mendoza was marked by a hot and dry summer, impacting the maturity of the grapes. Frost and water restriction affected yields and advanced harvests by 2 to 4 weeks depending on the regions. Despite these climatic conditions, acidity, color finesse and aromatic freshness were preserved. In spring, frost also impacted production. In summer, intense heat and lack of water accelerated the vegetative cycle.
Vinification and aging
After manual harvesting carried out early in the morning, the grapes reach the cellar to be sorted. Gravity vatting to start fermentation. Maceration of 20 to 25 days, accompanied by punch downs and racking. This Mendoza wine benefits from an initial aging of 12 months in French oak barrels, before an additional 12 months of aging in bottle.
Blend
Malbec (100%).
