Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of the Tormore 24 Years Old Refill American Hogshead Connoisseurs Choice Gordon & MacPhail 2000
Tasting
Appearance
Its hue displays a natural colour, guaranteed free from any added colouring, faithfully reflecting its twenty-four years of cask maturation.
Nose
A fruity and pastry-like bouquet opens with aromas of mandarin peel and ripe green apple. It then evolves towards indulgent notes of caramel and toasted almonds, enhanced by hints of mango and delicate floral nuances.
Palate
The texture reveals a beautiful silkiness with flavours of vanilla cream and honey. The palate continues with notes of milk chocolate and lemon cheesecake, accompanied by a generous burst of tropical fruits.
Food pairings and tasting moments
This exceptional single malt is ideally enjoyed neat, served at a moderate temperature in a tulip glass or copita. Adding a few drops of water helps to unlock its aromatic layers. As for pairings, it harmonises perfectly with fruity desserts such as an apple or pear tart, a stone-fruit clafoutis or a vanilla-enhanced crumble. It also pairs wonderfully with lightly aged hard cheeses, such as cheddar or comté.
Mixology
While it can be incorporated into ultra-premium tasting cocktails such as a variation of the Old Fashioned or the Manhattan, where its complex structure can fully express itself, it is strongly recommended to enjoy this exceptional spirit neat, without embellishment, in order to fully appreciate its richness.
Other characteristics
This single malt is unpeated and non-chill filtered. Bottled at natural cask strength (56.2% vol), it offers a medium-bodied finish, marked by notes of dried banana and charred oak.
A Scotch whisky of great purity: the fruity expression of Tormore
Tormore: the architectural and aromatic elegance of Speyside
Founded in 1958 by the Long John Distillers group, the Tormore distillery is an emblematic figure of the Speyside region. Designed by the renowned architect Sir Albert Richardson, it is celebrated for its listed buildings of monumental aesthetic. Historically intended to provide malts for luxury blends, notably for Ballantine's, the distillery long kept its aromatic identity in the shadows. This Scotch whisky stands out for its elegant, fruity and harmonious profile. Since its acquisition in 2022, Tormore is now owned by Elixir Distillers, led by brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh. Under the guidance of distillery manager Polly Logan and master blender Oliver Chilton, the brand is reinventing itself to bring its own character to the fore, offering connoisseurs single malts of great finesse.
The excellence of a single cask: 24 Years Old Refill American Hogshead Connoisseurs Choice Gordon & MacPhail
Distilled in the year 2000, this Scotch whisky is the result of a long and patient 24-year maturation in a single refill American oak cask (Refill American Hogshead no. 1264). Selected and bottled in 2025 by the prestigious independent House of Gordon & MacPhail, it belongs to the renowned Connoisseurs Choice range, created in 1968 by George Urquhart. This collection makes it a point of honour to reveal unique perspectives on Scottish distilleries through single cask or small batch bottlings.
The 24 Years Old Refill American Hogshead Connoisseurs Choice Gordon & MacPhail is presented in its most authentic form: bottled at natural cask strength at 56.2%, without any chill filtration or added colouring. This technical choice, a true signature of the range, ensures the complete preservation of the spirit's aromatic and textural compounds. Offered in an elegant gift box in 0.7 L format, this limited edition provides a pure and uncompromising reading of the distillate, magnified by the gentle and progressive interaction with American oak over more than two decades.
