Founded in 1729 by Nicolas Ruinart, Maison Ruinart is considered one of the oldest Champagne houses. It stands out for its commitment to excellence and authenticity, notably through its masterful command of Chardonnay, the House’s emblematic grape variety. Its exceptional heritage is also embodied in its crayères, vast chalk cellars listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, which provide ideal conditions for the maturation of its cuvées.
The birth of Ruinart rosé champagnes
As early as 1764, Ruinart innovated by creating its first rosé champagnes, becoming one of the first Houses to craft this type of cuvée. At the time, various methods were explored to achieve the characteristic pink hue, including the use of small red fruits or elderberries, giving the cuvée the famous “œil de perdrix” color. Gradually, this designation was abandoned in favor of the term “rozet,” which later became “rosé.” In addition, Ruinart Rosé evolved from a maceration rosé to a refined blended rosé, a signature of the House.
Remarkable savoir-faire
The creation of Ruinart rosé champagnes is based on a subtle blend of Chardonnay (around 45%) and Pinot Noir (around 55%, part of which is vinified as red wine). The grapes are sourced mainly from the Côte des Blancs, the Montagne de Reims, and the Vallée de la Marne. Harvesting is done by hand, followed by vinification in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats to preserve the wine’s freshness and tension. Malolactic fermentation then brings roundness and complexity before the wines rest for two to three years in the cellar.
The House’s rosés: multiple expressions
Brut Rosé, an emblematic cuvée This Brut cuvée captivates with its elegant copper-tinged color and fine bubbles. The nose reveals an intense aromatic palette of exotic fruits, floral notes, and warm spices. On the palate, freshness harmoniously meets a delicate structure, fruity aromas, and a persistent finish.
Seconde Peau Brut Rosé, an exceptional casing
This version of the Brut Rosé uses the same blend but stands out with its eco-responsible presentation: an innovative molded cellulose-fiber envelope, plastic-free, that hugs the bottle’s shape. It embodies Maison Ruinart’s commitment to sustainable development while preserving the cuvée’s elegance and freshness.
Dom Ruinart Rosé, an exceptional bottle
The House’s flagship, Dom Ruinart Rosé is produced only in exceptional vintages. It is distinguished by a higher proportion of grand cru Chardonnay and a rigorous selection of Pinot Noirs vinified as red wine. This outstanding Champagne seduces with its aromatic complexity, remarkable finesse, and exceptional aging potential.
